Also, I agree with Renegade. Show that dog whos boss. Next time he starts to flip out, grab him, and hold his muzzle down so he can't try to bite. It will piss him off bigtime, but also let him know you aren't ****ing around.

Don't hit him though, that doesn't do any good. He needs to know you are boss, but not fear you.
No no man you dont sound it at all, weve been thinking that for a long time now. We were going to move out until we found out that we couldnt afford to actually move in. its juts not an option just yet. When he does something bad I take him by his nose and let him know and usually it works depending on how much time he had to get upset.

I agree 100% by holding him down. Definitely portrays dominance. And you know what? He will wear himself out fighting you more so then you just pinning him down.

We arent planning on buying anymore pets, nor did we imply that we are. So why say it, especially when its prefaced with "not to sound like a dick"? We are trying to move out, things have been tight lately and having the dog makes it even harder to find a place cheap enough. Trust me, Im just as unhappy about the situation as Frankie is.

Anyway. I got the dog because he was 7 months old and still at the pet store, nobody wanted him and they were going to put him down. (so they said) He was discounted over $550. I know that I shouldnt have got him, but if I could go back, I still would've done it.

I was trying to make a positive suggestion, without coming off like a dick...which is why I prefaced myself incase I did come off like a dick.

I also am not saying that you are planning on buying another pet, I was just saying that one main part of having a pet is a place to keep it. Without the proper environment, its going to be difficult to train in....something that should have been considered before purchase...pets CANNOT be impulses.

I do understand about affording your own place too. My girlfriend and I live together, and stuggled for awhile as well. I feel for what Buster mentioned too. Affording monthly rent is easier then forking out $2k for first and last month rent, security deposit, supplies to run the place, etc, etc.

Not sure what my point even is here, but good luck with the dog.

Yea Im sorry, I didnt mean to jump down your throat. The whole thing is really frustrating. We wouldve been moved out by now, but due to job issues with Keith we were set back big time, and we're still trying to get back on our feet.

I admit the situation is bad, but there wasnt much we could do about it now, and the ****in sleaze bags at the pet store made it such a sob story that even i felt bad for him

Ah, hard to tell from the pics. Ran into a Fox Terrier last night while out walking. And I had a fox terrier/beagle mix.

Frankie probably didn't like getting scolded at the pet store, and I'm sure they didn't do it properly. I'm not sure if his issues are dominince or fear.

it sounds like he gets over stressed from getting upset and either can't control himself or gets terrified. I'd let his vet know and ask him if there is any blood work that can be done to see if there is anything wrong biologically

My recommendation, other than seeking a vets consultation, is to join a mailing list for dogs..or even specifically Fox Terriers or training, behavior, etc. Lots of times industry leaders can be found on there, actual trainers, people who write books, etc. Tons of free advice better than any of us could give.

Check out yahoo for mailing lists. I'm actually on one for my bird. Its pretty useless unless I have a question.

I dont really think that he has a dominince issue, I think its fear. Because he does listen, just not when Im yelling. Ive thought about talking to the vet about it. He is due up for his annual, so I will ask then.
