Don't get me wrong, i've done very well in sales, usually from being honest, trusting the product that i'm selling, and rubbing off my trust and enthusiam for the merchandise. If people need what you have, and you can honestly show them that yours in the best fit for them, then they can't say no. I guess i'm just repeating the "know what you're selling" part of the advice, but I always thought that was important. Oh yea, and don't act like a salesman. I hate those guys.

Study your product inside and out, then hustle like you have 10 kids to feed. Tell people what they wanna hear without lying to them. Ive been buying and selling cars since I was 17 yrs old.

keith who ever told you that no one last in that territory is full of bs the main person working that territory quit about 5 months ago and prior to that i believe scapegoat was handeling it but due to some issues with his parents he moved. i know this territory and its not dried, in advertising there is no such thing as dry, the bottom line is business need to advertise in order to increase their revenew. the main problem with this territory is the fact that the person handling it prior to u is a total moron and he was working 2 areas at a time and not keeping up with his client base. so far you been there for 4 whole days, reality is you wont hit goal this month but hey you cant do a months job in 1 week. phone sucks you old be reaching these people at a bad time, you need to start going out there an start building relationships, in abot 3 months you will be rewarded.

Ray is spot on. That territory isn't bad at all. The only problem is is that Rep's have been moving through that territory pretty quickly and leaving the company. The chick that had it before me was doing ok with the turf and left me a lot of **** scattered around the desk...
Is drew still there? Anyway... There are tons of businesses in that territory, tons of shopping centers, tons of "main" streets, etc. Hit one a day, give every business your card. Tell them you're new to the company and just coming around and introducing yourself. That you'll be back in about a week to see what their needs are for their business. its not about selling advertising space, its about filling a need, solving a problem. Discover what they want/need and fix it, offer them the solution in the form of advertising in the paper... yes, all the wacky bull**** special sections they have... don't focus on them all. A lot of them I tossed out. As for the filing cabinet, I suggest breaking that down by genre of store. It'll make it easier when those special sections come up and you need to fill in for a bridal section, or flowers or thanksgiving...whatever. I miss working there, I regret not being able to have the chance to really fall into my roll and kick some ass out there. Talk to other reps that are doing well, schedule a time to go out with them on their runs... preferably someone older or male. Young attractive females have it easy. Organize organize organize organize. Personally, I'd get a laptop and build an access program to keep everything in, when someone placed an ad, best time to talk to them, phone numbers, meeting notes, etc. Actually make relationships. Listen to what they say about family and friends and themselves, repeat stuff next time, "how was your wife's surgery". Favorite teams, etc. Good luck |
