Must be nice to sit at home and play moday morning quarterback.
i'm in no way at all putting them down...i think it's awesome engineering and i'm sure they put a lot of time and effort into it....but i don't know...it just doesn't make sense to me

this thread is good practice for members to to NOT POST if they dont have anything PRODUCTIVE to add.
i think the subject matter is interesting and i'd hate to bottle it off because some people dont know how to contuct themselves in public.
giving it one more try at leaving it open, hopefully everyone realizes by now that if you cant handle yourself posts get deleted and appropriate warnings are handed out. i'm gonna have to lock it next time too, but lets try to avoid that.

Troll...no reason to keep tryin...some of the ignorance portraid in here is just mind boggling.
since when is a 4g63 reliable with more than 400hp without any internal engine modifications???
im not saying the Ls1 is the engine of all engines...but theres a reason why its quickly becoming the choice of rodders for engine swaps....its reliable!!
600rwhp stock block ls1;s are everywhere.
how can anyone say that this isnt unique???? how many ls1's have you seen swapped into an Evo?? c'mon...you guys need to lighten up with all this "they ruined a good car" BS. its not like they tried stickin a 2.3l turbo ford svo motor in it...i mean seriously.
i think its pretty bad ass that they have the know how to do this....how many people would of thought to ever see a V8 powered Evo??..not me.

Well, here's my opinion (since I own an LS1, im a bit biased!)

1. The LS1 is a magnificent engine. Why? It's reliable, its fairly big, and it makes peoples panties wet when you listen to it unfettered, unmuffled, and around 4K.

That being said..this seems somewhat like a waste of money. You can make power in the Evo. Yes. Will it be as reliable as the LS1? Doubt it. Will there be exceptions to that? Absolutely, always are. The LS1 has quite a track record because its been around for 10 years. The LS2, 6, 7, and now 3 are all incarnations of it, and its truly a "milestone" engine.

And with THAT being said, this thing is cool, but still somewhat of a waste. However, to those who get all uppy and puffy thinking their Evo's will do this or that, remember a couple things. 1, opinions are like assholes, we all have them, and rarely are they nice, clean, and family friendly. And 2, there is no replacement for displacement . Why do I say this? Well, take your 4G63 and subtract your turbo. What's left..140hp? Maybe? Take the turbo off of the LS1..well..wait..turbo..there..isn't one? And what do you have? Anywhere between 315-350hp. Without boost. Without much tinkering. Christ, without DOHC!

BUT..it's also massive, and it drinks gas like Diddy drinks Dom Perignon. Regardless, different strokes for different folks. I'm more inclined towards the bigger, brasher strokes though.

lol, you supercharge/turbo one of those, and you're in for a treat.

/rantover (if you can call that a rant?)

There are plenty of 400 Hp 4g63 guys running stock motors and using there cars as a DD...With that being said, MOST 4g63 motors have ALOT of mileage on them.

But do a bone stock rebuild on one and mod it properly to reach 400 to 500 HP and it would run all day.

But you cant compare the two motors, So i dunno why everyone keeps trying

Very true, some try to turn up the boost without supporting mods or just totally ignore their maintenance intervals. This is where a pushrod engine will last longer, they take a beating!

Exactly, Dont get me wrong there two great motors IMHO, I'm a big fan of both (More biased towards the 4gee)

But it's rare to find a DSM done properly, Lets face it, It's cheaper to mod and it's cheaper to aquire one from the get go, I have yet to find a LS1 F body for under 10 grand...Like I said before, Stock rebuild Upgrade the fuel/turbo/exhaust get a proper tune and you could have a wonderfully realiable/Fun DSM to drive everyday.

And the DSM head can take ALOT of HP thrown at it before it needs to be upgraded, It's the block thats the weak point.

I knew someone was gonna do that, But it has 117K on the clock.

And it's Still 8 grand...Give me that same 8 grand and I can rebuild/Create the Daily driveable 400HP 4g63 I was talking about earlier...But really its a matter of opinion...I like DSM's, Some people like LS1s

Of course there are gonna be biased opinions.

And No jay, I dont really look that hard for good deals on LS1's
