And this is where things have the possibility to get ugly.

Hip-Hop as I and most people know it, is just a bunch of guys/girls rapping about "everyday life" as THEY know it. Well, if you are going to yell obscenities, treat women with disrespect, and call people names - including your own race, then why can't the white people do it as well? Should rappers be allowed to do what they do when they are being published and held under contract by the same corporation that fired Imus for saying "nappy headed hoes"?

I hope that someone takes up that cause, because I would back it 100%. No more double standard. You want to use your wishy washy politics to get someone fired, then it should hold true for everyone.

Agreed.

Only problem is many people who are all over Imus will pass the blame to white people again. I heard it begin last night, I was watching a discussion on the Imus issue on a news channel. The question was asked, "So what about the rappers and comics who defame black woman, how is this different?" The persons answer was, "well, it is the large white owned corporations who are the facilitators of this music, so it is they who are responsible." He completly ignored the fact that many of these labels were started by artists of color and only later picked up by the bigger companies. He just simply passed the buck off onto white people, removing all responsibility from those singing the songs.

I really think the article by Jason Whitlock, who is an African American, sums it up. For those of you who havent read it, here: http://www.kansascity.com/182/story/66339.html
