I would suggest you look on some strength conditioning and bodybuilding forums. Determine your goals: Are you trying to get toned and in generally good shape, are you looking to lose weight, are you looking to gain strength? Most magazines are full of articles written by supplement companies trying to sell their products so I wouldn't take their articles for much. Those creatine pills tell me nothing, anything else in them? What is the dosage? Typically 5-7g of creatine is more than enough for the average gym goer. Split the dosage and take half before, half after.

Some quick pointers:
First and foremost realize there is no miracle pill to making you look like a professional bodybuilder. Work on setting up a good diet (nutrition), workout schedule/routine, plenty of water, and get plenty of sleep. Whey or other protein should only be used to supplement when you should be getting through regular meals. Determine what your daily caloric intake should be, determine how much you want to come from protein/carbs/fat. A good ratio is 40%protein/40%carbs/20%fat but everyones body reacts differently, you'll need to adjust accordingly. As far as workouts there are many different routines: upper/lower splits, full body workouts, westside, etc. Do a little reading online and you'll find your answers.

My supplement recommendations:
Multivitamin, fish oil, b vitamin. A great daily multivitamin will give you the extra help your body needs, no need to spend a ton on some crazy centrum performance, compare the labels and see what you get for your money. No need to cycle.

Optimum nutrition whey - (1fast400.com or bodybuilding.com)- 24g of protein per serving, amino acids and no sugars. $50 gets you 10 lbs which is about 150 (24g protein) servings. I take two scoops at a time but there is some debate as to how much your body can take at once. No need to cycle.

NO Xplode - A decent supplement for some but as far as I'm concerned it's overpriced for what you are getting. Who knows what is really in their "proprietary blend". You could just as easily spend the money on some caffeine tabs, amino acids, and creatine powder/tabs. BrokenShift hit the nail on the head in regards to cycling this.

Creatine - I usually use a bulk cee powder or some tabs (ironmaglabs). Some people prefer creatine monohydrate, some prefer creatine ethyl ester because the mono causes them to retain too much water. I don't cycle, some people do.

You are still younger so aviod any testosterone boosters, they are a waste of money and your body is still producing more than enough of it.

I could probably write all day on this, but you can just as easily search the net. Save yourself a ton and don't buy from GNC, use an online forums or some better sports nutrition/supplement stores in your area. Price it online then see what you can get locally for a reasonable price. Check out some forums - bodybuilding.com, ironmagazineforums.com, anabolicminds.com, etc.

-Good luck.

NO Xplode - 3 scoops pre workout, 120+ ounces of water a day, good multi vitamin, Gym 5 days a week. Keep my carbs under 100 and get my protein from my chicken and fish I eat every night. Seems to work wonders for me.

3 SCOOPS!!!! If thats what it takes to get you going you need to cut back on it.

Once I get up to 2 heavy scoops thats when I cut back for about 3 weeks so I dont build a tolerance. Holy Caffine....

40 grams of protein every 3 hours! 3 meals and 3 shakes to bulk up. Your body will get rid of what it doesn't use to build muscle.

Well I used to bench 135-145 in sets, with no problems...today when I came back after almost a year, I found myself struggling to do 95..first set did 8, second only 5, and then my arms started to cramp up..barely got the bar back up..looks like I have a LOT of work to do

Yup, 3 nice scoops.. I was just following directions, one scoop for tolerance, 2 to 3 once you figure your body out. Caffine really does not have an effect on me.

So you guys take all this crap for what reason? To waste money?

I look at this subject the same way as girls spending an hour putting makeup on everyday.

There's nothing wrong with taking these supplements. And they're like $20 a pop and last for a month or so, sometimes even more.

Whey protein is absolutely the cleanest protein intake of my day.

Creatine is great, I get up in the morning and I'm not sore. I can work all day and still have enough energy to lift like I just woke up, and the extra size kicks ass too (I don't cycle it).

Last year I did a 4 page report on creatine for a personal study program that I made up for myself. I found an interesting article that stated that in a test they did with creatine, they gave 5 rats a normal dose of creatine (proportionate to the 5grams a day for a human) and they gave 5 rats a dose that was some rediculous amount (imagine swallowing a whole container of it per day).

After 6 months, the 5 rats with the huge dose became horribly dependent on the creatine and also suffered liver damage, and the other rats were taken off and continued to function normally with no dependency and no other side effects.

I did read some replies, but not all. You didn't answer answer my question though. Did you read my reply?

I am just wondering why you guys do it? Does everyone that takes these supplements have a job that requires them to lift more than the average human being? Outside of highschool I have never worked out in a gym or taken any kind of supplement (other than twinkies). I never needed to. I have never needed extra muscle mass to lift something that should only be lifted by one person.

If I am wrong please inform me in an adult way, but it seems like all of this is just a compensation device.

When in your life have you ever NEEDED the power of your Evo, could you not have gotten everywhere that was necessary with a much cheaper cavalier?

Its a hobby and interest just like cars, I work out because i feel better about myself, and so my body is better than it would be without. Last time i stopped working out I felt awful and out of shape, and it affected me in my everyday life. I only take creatine and protein, with a multi-vitamin everyday, and these things are to improve my workout and my overall health in everyday activities. Its not needed for everyday activities, but neither is an AWD Turbo car.

OK so from reading all three pages and seeing N.O. and Nitrix in GNC numerous times i think i finally got it. So its like caffeine? and if so why not just take a caffeine pill or does the powder work better?

I have used creatine before about 2 years ago and i wasnt impressed with the results and probably wont ever use it again because its effective result isnt my goal.

Now onto whey...
This is where i have no knowledge at all so i have a few questions. (as i sit within 10yds of GNC entrance lol) Ive heard it helps gain muscle mass faster, includes an ass load of calories and at the same time also helps get rid of fat or what the body does not use to build muscle. Also i know its a daily doseage type supplement but lets say i dont have time to work out one day and still take the whey. Doesnt it do more harm then good because ill be pushing so many calories into my body that i wont be burning off along with my daily food intake (breakfast and dinner)? and even if i take it on days i work out is it even still effective?

the reason for suppliments are for help during workouts. I can go to the gym and run and lift and feel tired and sore, or i can take some suppliments and lift more and run farther. Am i going to be Arnold Swartzenegger? no. would i like to be? yes. Im not taking steroids im things designed to help me maximize my workout. I wasnt born with an awesome metabolism where i can eat whatever i want and still have a six pack and stay in shape. i have to work hard to loose weight and in hopes of getting the body i want. the suppliments give me an extra edge at the gym, thats all. they dont automatically give me massive muscles nor do i think that taking them will net me some huge gain on their own. but what i do know is when i take them i get twice as good a workout as without them.
Going natural is fine for people, but it doesnt mean its the smartest way to go. there is so much research and study done on weightlifting and working out being ignorant to it is just leaving you out of what could possibly help you. If you ask why people take suppliments its because they have a goal, and that goal may be out of their reach unless they have some help to reach it. Not all suppliments are hardcore chemicals and drugs, alot contain natural things found in the body that everyone could use more of. [/adult response]

NO-xplode and Nitrix are not caffeine pills, do they contain caffeine? some might, but more importantly they contain vitamins and suppliments your body needs to produce large muscle or keep yourself going for longer. you really have to research what it is your looking for. L-arginine helps blood flow, i take pills for that from GNC which is right next to fish oil which helps your metabolism, you can find these in products like NO-xplode and Nitrix. they use high quantities of everyday vitamins to produce a desired effect, ie, more stamina, rapid muscle growth, faster muscle healing. These things are like the **** you see anna nicole smith trying to sell you, these are things scientifically designed to help your body and workout.

whey which is just powder protein is good for you plain and simple. its recommended you take it three times a day regardless of if you can workout that day or not. you cant go eat a cheeseburger and then take weigh and expect to loose weight. whey which is protein is the basic muscle building, fat burning element in your body (per say). having a high protein intake (like atkins diet) promotes weight lose and also helps yours muscles repair after a workout. you should always have a high protein diet, thats why people take whey.

the main point is you can take all the **** you want but if your not working out regularly and keeping a good diet its not going to do a damn thing.

i hope that helped some?

No, you took it wrong.

When I was younger I could eat whatever I wanted and go to the gym and workout with all the vigor in the world. Fast forward a few years and a couple of kids and I soon learned that eating everything under the sun cought up to me. I can't afford to be sore when I wake up in the morning. ALso doing the days chores, getting to the gym at night, and maintaining a high energy level is almost impossible. So sometimes suppliments are needing in order to have a good workout. Suppliments are also needed to help my body recover.
