On topic: My uncle just bought one to replace his 12 year old Protege. ABSOLUTELY loves it. Was looking at a BMW, and when he saw costs over the years, decided to go more in the direction of Mazda.

A mazda speed 6 is a nice daily driver. Dude you gotta stop with these comments. My sides are hurting. Not to hijack this thread anymore than it's already been. What kind of track times do you have for the ole super sleeper volvo?

So you're what, Mario Andretti?

I bought my car for 18K. For whatever your paying for that, i'm sure as hell getting a better bargain. So don't make this a personal thing. I'm going strictly by stats...and here they are..

http://www.edmunds.com/used/2004/vol...288/specs.html

Relavent info:
HP: 300
Torque: 295
0-60: 6.12
Weight: 3692

However, I figure the 0-60 is relatively high, so let's say its around 5.5. That makes the quarter, what, 14.00? MAYBE high 13's depending on driver? Edit: I also find a site saying 5.4. Much closer than 6.12! lol

So now, lets say, for ****s and giggles, my car.

Relavent info:
HP: 350
Torque: 365
Weight: 3725.

Now, since edmunds didn't have 0-60, I went to Motor Trend.

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...ecs_price.html

Now, there specs are....

0-60: 5.3
1/4 Mile: 13.6

So stock vs stock, you can say they are "slightly" even, with the GTO having an edge. But this isn't about a GTO, or an S60R, its about a MSP6, which is one heck of a bargain.

No its not. My car was built to compete against BMW's in a 4 person performance car segment. Hence there are comparo's to cars like the M5. Wasn't the S60R compared to a 3 series? Also being a BMW?

The S60R, from what I understand, is a great, great car, and I applaud you actually owning one. I dunno about owning one myself, but different strokes for folks.

Back to the topic..

Does anyone on here actually OWN the MSP6?

The Speed does not compare performance wise to the EVO's or STi's. No 1/4 mile race or circuit track race would even be close. Inside is nicer though.

i said tht from the gate the only compariosn is a allwheel drive turbo........ evo's and sti's are purpose built rally/road race cars, the pretty sure tht the msp6 is just a dialy driver for the driver enthuisist thts looks for a mid life crisis or a gift for a spoiled child

but dont get me wring i believe in the following year the car will become slightly more competvie but as will the evo and sti

Well, the Evo and the Sti seem to be more radically evolved (lol) from their base form. I'm sure if the MSP6 had the same radical modification it'd be as fast as well.

Of course that is somewhat irrelevant; the Evo is what it is, and so is this.

if they were to beef up the msp to be an evo or sti the msp would no longer be competitive price wise

mazda would have to sacrifice there nice interior to be competitive but then having the luxury is what makes the msp6 what it is

FWIW the EVO doesnt have a base form like the WRX chassis does. The EVO and the base lancer chassis are quite a bit different. The EVO has alot of Extra bracing and stregthening. Also the EVO does not share the Engine or AWD with the base models as does the STi sort of.

So you cant relly think of the EVO as a glorified Lancer as you can a STi a glorified Impreza.

As for the whole S60R vs all. The S60R will put that Speed6 down. And If your GTO is stock you better know how to get off the line cause if he can launch it your getting owned in the 1/4 my friend.

On your side now you'll walk him and me on the highway (untill I get my cams in next month)

155ish. It's limited, I believe. But without the limiter, who knows? 165-70ish? It's all gearing really..and I don't doubt 180, but have doubts with this gearing.

My car has wheel hop like mad, which is what I believe gsrboi is referring to with the "off the line". However, a sway bar does wonders in helping with that, as does launching it. I've only launched it a few times, but have yet to run it at the track.

It will be stock for about 2 days too..so, there goes that, lol. CAI, short shifter, and rear sway bar from SLP will all be on by Tuesday. I LOVE Xmas..oh edit: I plan on camming in a month as well..lol ;)

Regarding the Evo, I've heard of all that. Really, its all just an evolution of ideas that went into the Lancer. Albeit, its heavily modified. So therefore, my whole point was there is such an evolution (get it), or a radical change from model to model that if the Mazdaspeed shared it, i'm sure itd compete on a better basis.
