What was the case when the S54 engine was introduced the first 2 years... Everyone was blowing up their Sh*t... So back to the point. S54 6 year running, won awards, now a Proooooven Power plant, flawless and bullet proof, in an e46 body that has also been around for years (timeless design) and all the glitches have been taken car of Or a new twin turbo engine with new technology, that NO ONE has done a long term test on for reliablity yet. Who knows what will happen. Heres a bit of insider info. 11 of the E92 twin turbo engines that have been tested, Only one car has some decent miles on it. 28,792 to be exact, Tested in the USA in the desert. the other 10 test mules are under 7K miles. hmmmmmmmmm But since I dont know anything.... please buy the car. its an awsome car for the daily driver and it looks good. Its the hot new thing... Also let me know how your modding is going...

Whoa! This thread took a turn for the worst.
I know MpoweredM, he knows his stuff. I ran into him a while back, when I was purchasing my 330Ci. He knows more about BMW than the people who build them. LOL. ![]()

To the OP--
I'd stick with the M3. It's an awesome car. I'v put a couple thousand miles on my brothers M3 and I love it. I'd defiantly buy one if I decided to get into a car loan again. The only reason I'd steer clear of the new TT 3 series is because they just came out. THere is defiantly gonna some time before aftermarket parts become avaliable and before all the factory re-calls are conducted. |

You can set up a weekend for me to drive your car, since I absolutely love it. I am a huge fan of the old M Coupe though. I love the huge fender flares in the back...

The dyno graphs
We will start with a car with turbo lag, followed by the M3 and the 335 (take notice it's flat, than drastically ramps up and levels out) ![]() They are obviously on different scales, but it's also obvious that the two curves aren't all that different ;) TUNED E46 M3 ![]() STOCK 335 (take notice it is a steady climb NO TURBO LAG). I'd like to get my hands on the two files and overlay to show that in comparison to the M3, the 335 does in fact have an extremely similar curve (hence, you shouldn't feel that turbo lag if you don't notice the high revving (relative) M's inline 6).
Again, I agree the only reason to steer clear is first year. It's just amusing to watch the previous generation M owners to get their panties in a bunch because there's something new out, that competes (and does some things BETTER) compared to their "M" cars. I've heard that the old Mcoupe's were horrible cars. I don't know why, but I just allways remember people saying how horrible those cars were.
My neighboor used to have an M roadster. He let me drive it once, that was an awesome car. |

I've heard bad and lots of good too. I just love how they look and with the 315hp, it's a really quick car.

Sorry, substitue SIMILAR for some instances, SAME for others, and BETTER for yet a couple different things and you have what I was getting at.

I think your definition of similar is your own idea you have. I think to most car enthusiast, people who track or auto X cars I think it might be a bit of a difference. A 36 Second difference on the Ring is 36 car lengths or about 550 Feet, thats 0.1 Mile. To me 36 Car lengths is a kill. And a good one.
