Trust me, I have a BOV on my own car, and I was just throwing it out there for the hell of it.

As far as the recirc/atmos question, the problem with the drive by wire systems is that they are expecting certain perameters withing thier system. They are sensitive enough to notice the lack of air from the diverter and will throw codes and make the car run in psudo limp mode. The redlines are notorious for this and freak even if you put an air intake on the car.

Using a blow of valve generally reduces strain on the center cartridges rotating assembly and bearing, while benifiting from the lack of reverse turbulance of air movment that bounces back from the TB when it closes the flapper, and a smooth transition of boost/vacum. this will leave your impeller blade spinning at a higher RPM after the open/close/open cycle of the TB is completed during a normal upshift.. The purpose of the BOV on an auto trannt equipped turbo poered engine, is to make the transition smoother and improve longetivity of the turbo..
Venting the air out, is a stupid idea if you are venting metered air period, even if you try to tune around it, there is no point..90% of the cars on the road with aftermarket BOV's ran better with what came on it from the factory, even if they leak your turbo still picks up the slack most of the time..VTA is ultimate ricer in my book unless you are running blow through MAS or MAP fuel control, but other disagree I'm sure

Now--- is this only for subies or what? I would imagine that basically a bov would work the same way on a dsm, evo, srt or any aftermarket turbo setup for that matter--- yet I never hear of dsm or srt people talking about how a bov will hurt performance.

So does a bov impede performance on ALL turbo cars or not? Somebody school me...

exactly...no recirculation valve = detrimental to the turbo (surge)

but running bov atmospherically doesn't mean it's a stupid idea...you just run rich from the metered air not being there and may have stalling issues on decel on a maf/map setup. running rich is a lot better than running lean

i do agree though recirculate your ****....

so where is the optimal place to put your bov? that's a debate all to it's own...jk

Yea i was really surprised to see this thread and lack of knowledge of a BOV. I was talking to a buddy and he said that he has seen a couple on differnet forums and that i would be surprised how much misconception there is about it.

Sometimes I wish that the bov couldn't be loud just so people wouldn't post thousands of threads here, on DSMtuners and DSMtalk.

Just switched the stealth over to speed density so I don't have to worry about running the RFL anymore. Now I just have to get that replacement spring in...
