Not just in the Poconos, but it's hard to find jobs everywhere. You almost have to know someone to get a real job. As someone said, retail is ALWAYS hiring. If you could do management in retail, you'd bring home a pretty good paycheck. I'm just tired of retail and all the crazy hours which is why I had to get a 8-5. As far as the immigrant thing, I think it's how you worded it. Basically it's like if you want to be paid $9.00 an hour when a person could hire an 'immigrant' for $5-$6 per hour, they sure as hell won't hire you. They want people to slave for pennies. Your thing is just to go elsewhere. Maybe you should think about moving from the Poconos...try NE Philly or someplace that's right in the middle so if you have to travel, it won't be too far. Not being mean, but you do have to get out and look. Get up bright and early, NOT 3 in the afternoon, and head out to places. It's all about presentation and vocabulary...walk the walk, talk the talk. If you want a better job, go to better places. Stop going to the places that have tons of 'immigrants' working there. Obviously, if they have a lot of 'un-skilled' or one-skilled types of people working there, it may not be the place for you. A place you can work at, which will be good for your baby is UPS. Kinda a $hit check, but the benefits are wonderful. I was a supervisor after 8 months working there. I only worked there overnight becasue I wanted to be home with my daughter during the day. And I'm glad I did because she turned out to have asthma...can you say a $5,000 hospital bill from a 1 day stay that I didn't have to pay!...

Anyways, if you don't like the situation, YOU have to change it, and no matter what, you CANNOT blame anyone else. Any more advice and I'll have to charge you for it!

Maybe you could find groundskeeping or janitorial job at a school district. I'm working for pocono mountain school district doing IT work. The benifits in a school district are pretty top notch and I'm making 14 some an hour. Janitors and groundskeeping probably dont pay much less that IT.

How would I know you're black you have a white kid as your avatar lol. Not trying to be hostile just trying to knock some sense into you to take control of your situation for your kids sake. What you need to do is find a way to give yourself an advantage. Write up a resume, there are a hundred sites online that will tell you how, then everytime you apply to a place attatch it to the job app. so that way it seems like you are more professional and more prepared. At the very least it will give you a better chance at getting an interview. Best of luck man.
