we should just give up with camden and put a wall around the hospital/rutgers/waterfront/ccc area and let everyone else have a free for all.

Shows how little you know of Camden. There is alot of good people there, I grew up in the city of Camden, not pennsauken, collingswood or palymra as young kids from the suburbs say when they say there were from Camden. I know how bad it is and also how good some of the people are. I also worked at the AutoZone in the heart of Camden for 5 years and I never had anyone try to touch my car, vandalize my car or even try to start anything with me. There is many people there that help out other people but sadly the only news you hear from Camden is the countless murders and violence coupled with a political city council that's more interested in lining their pockets than helping the people that live there, it's just slowly getting worse. What they really need to do is due is bring back in the state troopers like they were doing.

i go to school in Camden. walking to class instead of taking the shuttle almost guarantees the chance of a run in with a crackhead. i had a drunk mother with her daughter who was probably 5 or 6 asking me for money (it was about 930am). last week some crackhead just ran out into the street and ran into the side of my dads truck when i was driving it. numerous people at school have been robbed. sure there are decent parts and some good people that come out of there, but they are few and far between.

Yea I heard about this. A good friend of mine use to be a camden cop. He inform me of what was happening their. He couldn't beleave it him self. He had alot of friends that got laid off from the force and fire department. Camden is bad as it is and has bin rated number one worst place to live in the US and crime rates are up the roof. God bless those who are good that still live their.

I'm a Cherry Hill brat, but a good majority of my friends live in CMD. Sure the city is dirty, yes there are crackheads in plain sight, but I've NEVER been messed with or hassled. Could be because I'm a Negro though LOL. But seriously, as long as you're a cool person and don't act like a d*ckhead most of the time, you won't be getting messed with. Now if you're pigmentally impaired, that's a different issue altogether.

Unfortunately, I don't foresee the city of Camden getting any better with these layoffs. It's funny to see civil service workers laid off, but an old casino is being restored in AC using Jersey's own funds!

Half of the City of Camdens Police Force and a 3rd of its fire companies will be laid off tomorrow due to budget cuts within the city. This is all while the city's officials have spent money on the water front and basically stolen money from the city to dump into the Cooper Medical Center.. (guess how much it cost to build that new wing... HRMMM) and live great lives with their 100k+ salaries.

I am not here to ask for charity for the City of Camden, but only that you guys think twice before saying that a fire department or police officer is only out to **** you over or do you wrong.

Anyone have any ideas as to how we, the surrounding public can help the once great City of Camden?
Unfortunately to many people Camden is a lost cause. Most of the private industry is gone. Some big entities are Cooper, Corriel, SJPC, and CCPA, but some also receive aide. Unfortunately the waterfront which a good portion is owned by private investment groups have tax exemptions as well. Sure some areas may have potential, but they don't have a lavish ROI and in the end its all about money especially when there is risk involved. I went to school at Rutgers Camden and have done a few audit engagements for both private and municipal entities. There is a lot of irresponsible appropriations and of course THEFT New Jersey's number one problem at the political and board levels. The corruption of this state is beyond any correction. Hope these people you know can recover and put their skills to work into serving another community.

Such is life?

I don't get people, this is the way America is.
We would probably all complain if they raised taxes? The economy is in the hole.
Since the state is under-funded and over-budgeted it makes them crooks? No.
They cut back, and everyone is in an outrage. Welcome to the recession.
They say we can spend, and that puts us XX Billion in debt. Everyone complains. Welcome to the recession.

You want to help Camden? Go down and volunteer your time at a school. Or better yet, you can volunteer your time as a rent-a-cop.

I was raised in camden and still here. To all of the people who hear the word Camden and automatically hear crimes, guns, blahbahbah, well F U I'm tired of it yo... Yeah theres bad things happening around here and like some people said, all you hear is the bad things, what about the good things? Did you know there is a free garden where you can plant and buy (for really cheap) crops and vegetables in the neighborhood. Did you know that sooo many people in camden have real jobs? Did you know that sooo many people in camden have amazingly kind hearts. - Man i was stuck one rainy night with my father in his work van, his axle broke. and we were stuck RIGHT in front of a popular drug spot. the minute we stopped a cop pulled and warned us about the neighborhood that we should sit inside and lock the doors. but he was wrong, the neighborhood helped us get the van out the way, a clear thug was our savior who has a friend IN CAMDEN that has a toe truck. he toed us free!!!! although my dad made him receive money. I dare you try and get that in cherry hill, fk out of here. Camden bad.... Live it before you talk about it. What I keep recommending is that they bring in the army and put them everywhere. Start frisking every single person in the street passed curfew and everyone violating ANY law. They can change this city up quickly with just two laws.... 1. No sagging pants. 2. No littering. - U bring the army to enforce them two laws and you got yourself a new camden. Guaranteed.

I could go on forever explaining how good camden is.... No one in my family has EVER been mistreated by someone in Camden... However, I was mistreated by Pennsauken police when they failed to follow procedures and then come up with a bull**** reason to cover up their mistake.
