if you move over to the other company, will you be taking all of your PTO with you? will you be keeping seniority if you have any? or will you be starting out fresh again? are the wages comparable?

wages are supposed to be the same +1%... which is gay because we were getting 2% increases this year.

and no PTO will transfer, not sure about the seniority thing. id guess its starting fresh.

The bright side would be that you'll still have a job, +1% salary increase. How will your commute change (if any) and how will your health benefits be affected. You also mentioned contract. Will you be a contracted employee? If you are, will they be 1099'ing you at the end of the year? and if a contracted employee, will they not be paying for benefits?

On the other side of it, with the unemployment, you'll be getting 6 months off. down side is, its roughly 80% of your greatest quarterly income from the past year, and you wont be paying federal taxes on it (so kiss your income tax return if any goodbye) you'd lose your benefits, but you could always pick up a cash gig for extra scratch.

Sorry if its so many questions, but i like to look at every side of an option.

My personal take when it comes to employment and income is to keep money rolling in as much as possible. After talking a little about your work situation, i would consider working as long as possible with your current comapny and move to the new company. This will keep your income stable and allow you to keep interviewing with various companies. Then when you find something that you like, give your 2 weeks and start the new job. Plus, you will have a lot of time during the transfer to leave and interview. No one will be monitoring things to closely.

Also, talk to your HR rep and see if there are other jobs internally that you might like.

If you leave now and take a severance, then you have to find a new job at a faster pace and might take something that you might not espically like if the lowwer income will afect your life.

There are no wrong choices, just one that you prefer more than the others.

^^ agreed Ang.

If you take the severance and stick with unemployment, it could affect your next job. When the possible employer called your past job for a reference check, the previous employer may say that you were offered a job but opted to take the severance package.

That could jeopardize your position with the company your're applying to, because they may question your work ethic, or dedication to a job.

Not saying you are, but its a possibility with HR departments.

Here is something to add to the mix. If you decide to leave, the company for example will pay you a severance. As an added benefit, they may keep you in the health benefits group for a certain amount time too. You might be categorized as still working at Comcast for the span of the severance package.

For example, you get a 2 month severance and still considered working at Comcast for that time if you need a working reference for future employment. Also you health benefits last through that time. But then after that, you are cut off on both points. I also think that Comcast has a department that helps you get employment after your let go. But that office is located in Center City.

Given all the variables is the reason i say work till they throw you out and use all that time to interview at a place you want to work.

incorrect. in the state of PA an employer can only say if they'd recommend you. they cannot mention anything else beyond that. otherwise they could be sued for defamation of character... i'm sure there is also something else they could be sued for.

in short, it wouldn't jeopardize his potential at getting a job. his opting to take the severance over transferring to another company shouldn't be looked down on. it could simply mean he didn't feel the other company would be a good fit for him

my chili isn't nearly as spicy as i anticipated... and not nearly as spicy as the smell in my apartment. it was a little tough to breath with all the pepper in the air.

its pretty damn good though. its got a decent kick, but i think next time i need 2 or 3 habanero's instead of one... and maybe larger pieces of pepper to simmer in the crockpot along with the minced up pepper, i think i lost a lot of the pepper's oil when i was cutting them up small
