look at your bro for example, how much money did it run him to fix the Mr2 couldnt have been that much and it looks pretty damn good from when ive seen it.
Well, it seems as if we have two different definitions of the word "shell". When I refer to a "Shell" I refer to it in the same context in which James and I orginally talked about many weeks ago. A "shell" was meant to be essentially a complete car without and engine and some other tid-bits. In this case it was essentially a one to one swap where his engine, trans, and wiring harness would be removed and put into the new "Shell" and it should be a turn key operation.

I think when you refer to a "Shell" you're referring to a bare or almost bare uni-body in which case it would be easier to just do the body work on James' current car.

In reference to finding a rust free shell, they're out there. A lot of people buy them down south or out west and have them shipped. This is not a very viable option for James because of the cost but he still may be able to find a cleaner shell than the one he has where the rust isn't as visible.

On the subject of my Brother's MR2, the car is not fixed. Bent parts were removed and the bumpers and fenders were mounted as one complete piece. There is no crash bumper, certain radiator mounts are missing, a lot of the front sub structure has been removed or bend into place (bending metal of that thickness tends to stress it) and certain things are not mounted entirely or have been rigged to fit. For what my brother is doing, that was fine. It cost him almost nothing and he doesn't care. Should he ever get into even a minor accident (< 5mph) the front end of the car will crumple like an aluminum can the car will be damaged beyond repair. I'd assumed since James' Supra is his DD and only car he'd want it to be done right so he doesn't have to redo anything down the road (I.E. taillights leaking, bad panel fitment, rust because of bare metal and so on and so forth.)

i have read the debate about crash bars for some time now, from what i have deduced from my research the crash bar is only meant for low impact collisions I.E. 15mph or less, and your bro could have done it the more right way for probably another 100 dollars more but opted not to thats his choice. but i still think finding the shell you describe for james in the tristate area is going to be tuff. and you are still neglecting the fact that who is going to do this entire swap? james? i mean **** its be awsome if he did but i really feel like he going to get way over his head, and you know how those projects end up? the car sits apart for a year and eventually gets parted out, ive seen to many kids embark on the same task both in person and reading on the forums a lot of these cars jsut end up parted out, which i really dont wanna see james car go that route. and like chris said james's car is not that bad at all, he has no frame damage or anything just minor body skin damage. I mean i cant believe more people arnt like this like YO my fender and rear 1/4 pannel has a dent lets swap shells.

btw i in no means am posting this to argue or be a dick, i just feel like both you and me are having an intelligent discussion, i dont want you to feel like we are having an argument of anything just wanted to clear that up cause i know sometimes its hard to tell on the internet.

+1 I agree that you should keep your car because A. Its your first car and we all know how much sentimental value it has to you B) Like Alex said no matter what when its wrenching time you cant rely on anybody but yourself C) How long do you want your car down for? You can still drive the supra as you do the body work but I highly doubt the swap is going to take a weekend as you may have been told. Its not a honda swap, and I dont think we have too much 1jz swap expirence. Yea its "1 for 1" but we all know nuthing goes that easy. and do you want your car down when you hit a snag. Face it without spending mad money it'll never look perfect but then again tell me whose car on here is....... Btw it cost me Less then 300 to fix my car which was deemed "Totalled" which i will admit is semi rigged up/ghetto

but u gotta admit johnmicheal if you wanted to put another 100 and a lil more time it would be almost perfect. and if you put enuff time into body work you can make it look damn near perfect to the point where noone will be able to tell but you that the car has been in an accident. its about how much time you wanna invest.
