Ken I'm not quite sure off the top of my head what sizes you'll need. I believe to take the midpipe off my manifolds was a 13mm socket, and if it's a tight fit like my mustang, the passenger side you'll need an extension plus a swivel (I think I'm thinking the right thing) extension as well for the tight spot. I can't remember exactly for the headers themselves. Soak in lots of Wd-40, Pb Blaster, whatever you got.

I am pretty sure that a 13mm and 1/2 inch are very close in size. You can pretty much swap one or the other if you are trying to unscrew a nut. Some exhaust manifolds also have studs that they attach too. In that case you would need a deep socket.

Ken, determining when you do it next weekend, I might be able to come and help. I'll admit I wouldn't want myself touching some parts of a car, but I'm willing to help you out. Although Sunday would be the only good day for me.

You might need the extension on the front of your ratchet to break free the bracket that joins the pipes. I have seen that bracket with 3 points that you have to fasten/loosen. That triangle pattern has one nut/bolt between the floor pan and the top of the pipe. You need the extension on the ratchet in order to get the socket into that space.

Ken, just to be safe, soak the area in WD-40. It's easier to have that fluid help you loosen the bolts than it would to have to re-tap the header if you were to break the post.

Grimm i was joking with you. When i was younger i had the same question when i worked on US cars. Some were standard others were metric. The owner of the shop told me to check the assembley point on the car. The US built cars were standard while the Mexico and Canada built cars were metric. The mustang might be built here so it doesnt help explain why there are metric bolts.
