The next battery pack im buying for my d80 will allow me to do a an infinite exposure (as long as the battery or power lasts). Idk what you have, but just pick up a infrared remote. The nikon d series use the ml-l3 which works well with the bulb setting

Thats what you do, you bounce off a wall, ceiling, or through a diffuser. For example, if im shooting in a church, i usually just point upward and let the light come back down to fill. Or if im shooting a band, i usually have it flash upward, behind me (if its a small venue) or remotely from the side or something.

my canon has a "bulb" mode, whic is, as long as i hold down the button, the shutter will stay open. havn't tried using it yet though.

idk much about canons but i know they have an infrared remote. You press the button once, itll open the shutter, press it again, itll close. Unless you have a exposure set, then itll work for whatever the exposure length is set for. This is extremely convenient for night shots. you can now turn your iso down to 100/200 and do a 2 minute exposure versus a 30 second at 800 or so

^haha, yea i used to think they same thing, but there are a few kit lenes in there, so not that great in my mind, should sell some to make some space. But i cant squeeze my 70-200 in there, that thing gives me a boner everytime i get to use it

but i am looking for something water/dust proof, something along the lines of a pelican case, but for home use. My dad offered his old gun case, but i dont have any 500mm-600mm lenses to fit in the riffle spots.

the remote for the nikon series is 15 bucks from amazon. search nikon infrared remote, or ml-l3. this, just like flash, will change photography for you. Now you can get out and do some night photography in the pitch black. The d40 had an autoshut off at i think 23 minutes. your 50 may be the same so keep that in mind.

Ok so im thinking of going to attempt my first HDR Shot this weekend and from doing some reading this is what i gather...

Want to be shooting in Manual or Auto-P
Change the bracketing to 2 Stops (varies depending)
Take 3 Photos

Now this is where i get a lil confused, I get the concept of one at normal exposure, under exposed, over exposed..so am i just chaging the EV values for each of the 3 shots or since i changed the bracketing to 2 stops this automatically does this for me?

Also is it best to shoot in RAW or FINE Fomart (Kinda a general question for all my photos too)

I understand Photomatix Pro is a good program from merging HDR now it starts as 32bit do i need to convert to 16bit? or does the program do this for me?

Thanks for all the help

and to continue with less talk more photos

i use photomatix, im not sure about the technical stuff, but its really easy to use, you just select the different exposures, and it will merge them for you and let you tone map it. i would shoot on manual, the auto settings are annoying, and i was always told to shoot in raw, but im not that serious so i still use jpeg :x

p.s. check your PMs

i use photomatix pro 3.

i have my camera set up for bracket shooting at +/- 2. after i setup the first pic for normal exposure, then the next 2, willl automaticlly be taken under and over exposed.

i shoot those in RAW, but, i convert it to jpeg in PS before i use photomatix.

here's one i did. set the light blending on low to get the cartoony look (this is a repost)

Fine JPEG and RAW are almost identical with their editing capabilities with Lightroom or Bridge. The main reason for shooting RAW is the indestructibility of the original image.
