Part of me sees that yeah, someone (employee) could get pissed and shoot up the place, so it "avoids" that. But the other part of me asks, what if a non/ex employee or someone random decides to come in shooting? It also asks ok you don't want it in the building, I can see that, but in my personal vehicle? That's silly. But it goes back to part one of my post.

There are other coworkers that have their ltcf and carry outside of work full time and we've talked about it. I'm just soaking in as much as I can for my everyday life to decide what I need to do. I'd rather obey and continue to provide for my daughter and keep the job, than to risk losing it. BUT I won't not make my opinion known in a professional manor to my superiors just to see what they say you know?

Yes I know, "but if you get hurt or killed because you weren't carrying at work, then you can't provide for your daughter"... well I hate to say it like this but I have life insurance and her college fund aside. And I have no personal debt that would be left to my family to pay back. All of my loans are covered, that if I die, they are covered.

I dunno. Once I actually talk to someone that matters within my job, I will be able to decide more easily. But as of right now I have no idea how my superiors feel on the subject.
Personally, I'd recommend against bringing up the issue with anyone you work with. Make your decision to either carry or not carry and don't let anyone else know about it.

I always like 1911 models but i'm not picky, I was look at the Walther Pk380, a 9mm that i was considering was the Beretta PX4 Storm, I got to shoot one a few weeks ago and was really impressed, also one of my favorites is the Remington 1911 R1. Feel free to throw your own suggestions in their, I have $1000 limit so be reasonable.

Let me also clarify that this is not going to be a CC gun, I use my Taurus M85 38 special for that, this will be a range shooter/home protection gun.
I have a Para 1911 f/s if you're interested PM ME.

Ya I carry my G19 everyday, but there has definitely been some situations where I wish I had a more deeper concealable gun...

I would not replaced my G19 with the smaller gun, such as the bodyguard, but have it for situational purposes, especially in the warmer months with less garments covering...

Thanks but to buy from a private seller out of state is a bitch w/ NYS laws, my friend tried to ship a hand gun to his brother who lives in VT it took 6 weeks for the paper work to go through, but when he lived in AZ and shipped another gun to VT it took 10days total for processing and shipping, but thanks tho.

I talked to the wife and she likes the glock, we are going to the range this weekend to try one out and see how she likes it, I'm on the fence whether or not i like it but we will see, I'm leaning towards a 1911 tho, its always been my favorite style pistol, and now that i have the oppurtunity to get one i think i'm gonna go with it regardless, the mrs. is just gonna have to go to the gym to build up her arms and shoulders to handle to .45

^^^^That's exactly why I want a smaller handgun to carry. Mesh shorts don't really work with a heavier/larger handgun

For what it's worth - my compact M&P in .40S&W is snappier and feels stronger than most .45ACP guns I've shot, certainly more than a full size 1911. The size of the gun has a lot to do with that. Also, a .45 is a solid feeling 'push' whereas .40 is usually noticeably more of a snap and upward rotating sort of recoil. That makes most .40s a little tougher for smaller shooters to handle, but I've taught a few small framed girls how to shoot with my gun and they have all done great. Within only a mag or two worth of shooting you'd think they had been shooting for years. Handling recoil is at least 90% mechanics and has very little to do with size. Your girl might do just fine with the 1911 or any other .45ACP.

I have to agree once again with you Mike. I have shot Mike's M&P .40 when I was more fresh into shooting handguns and thought it was snappier than the .45's I was shooting.

This was until i understood the mechanics of recoil control and implemented proper recoil control techniques...

The way a gun recoils has a lot to do with grip of the gun. A 1911 .45 allows for a higher grip on the gun which helps "push" the gun more to the rear than upward. The higher the grip the better, essentially if you could hold the gun at the top of the slide this would be the "ideal" position for recoil control. Where if you had a low grip it would tend to bounce up. Then comes grip "thumb out" etc. (for most semi-autos) to keep balance on each side of the handgun because they tend to recoil up and to the left for a right handed shooter due to lack of support on the "reaction" hand. Apply thumbs forward grip compensates this.

I would bet should would like the .45 1911 better than the .40 with a few mags

I bet my girl can out shoot some guys on this site

You're right about the grip position affecting felt recoil, but the M&P and most other plastic guns (glock, etc.) actually allow for a higher grip position than 1911s. My old Sig P229, for example, is similar in dimensions to a 1911 and it felt 'snappier' than my M&P, even though it was heavier and had a larger grip surface (more to hold onto). The Sig and 1911s can rotate upward more because your hand is farther below the center line of the barrel. With the same shooting technique used on each gun, the Sig caused a noticeably larger amount of muzzle rise than my M&P.

When I describe the .45 as a 'push' and the .40 as a 'snap', that's based on some messing around at the range one day with a friend's Glock 30SF (.45ACP), vs. my M&P40C vs. a rented M&P45C and XD40 Compact vs. my Sig P229 (.40S&W) vs. a friend's P220 Elite (.45ACP) ... with each comparable gun (the ones that were the same size and weight) the .40s felt like more recoil. The .45s are similar in strength I guess you could say, but they feel like a tamer and more controllable sort of recoil. It's actually sort of weird because you'd expect the larger round to pound you a bit more, but .45s are heavy and slow so it sort of evens it out.

stay away from the P238, biggest POS ever. I liked it because it was like a baby 1911 but it had to be sent back to Sig for dumb issues and had FTE and FTF constantly.

Take a look at the Kahr P9, its not a 380 and is TINY (4" iirc) plus you can add a crimson trace to it and maintain the tiny size.

Ok those punisher guns are the tits! nice setup

I wish you guys didnt live so damn far away i would love to go shooting with you all. seem like a very knowledgable bunch, I got into shooting later in life around 20yrs old, I grew up in BK so it was kinda hard to just go out to a range. Started off with 22. rifles and a few shot guns then when i turned 21 i got my handgun permit then at 22 i applied for my CC license, it took about a year to go through all the BS but it was worht it. I dont normally carry all the time tho, as I live in upstate NY now and work in manhattan, plus I take public trans. to work and park my car in a commuter lot so i dont keep the gun in the car, but on weekends depending where we are going I'll carry. I love my Taurus tho, Its a tough and easily carried, I use either an ankle holster, or Uncle mikes inside the pants holster depending on what i'm wearing.

Has anyone actually had to draw on someone before? I've had to once when my wife, (gf at the time) were up in VT camping and some guy came walking through our campsite while we were sleeping. I got out of the tent and he was just wandering around I never aimed it at him but I held it so he could see it, I asked what he wanted (with a few more adjectives) he turned around and ran off, I fired off a warning shot in the air to scare him some, then we immediatly packed our **** and got the **** outta dodge. We called the state police and reported it but nothing ever came of it.
