Absolutely fantastic build. We have similar taste, that's for damn sure. I've been eyeing up a 7670 for the Evo ever since they released the line. I'm entirely too curious as to how ridiculously responsive your setup will be.

TWO questions:

How long was your wait on those tires? I'll be running the same size on the Bimmer and can't find a backorder time anywhere.

Also-

Where did you find the 6ULs in 15x9?! I've been eying that wheel up for ages but can't find it anywhere as it's out of stock on their website!

Looking great!

You have to wait, sometimes pay and wait for them to be made months later as there is very high demand.

good-win racing
trackspeed engineering
there's a few other places

Tires were in stock when I got them, a little more money now but IIRC Tirerack and DiscountTireDirect both have them available right away. I can sell you my setup if you really want, I've been eyeing up some new stuff ;)

I have high expectations for the turbo.

That's what I thought. I'm torn between the 6ULs and the only other cool wheel with 'proper' backspacing, the new Jongbloed Racing wheel.

I may actually be very interested, I just need to do some math to see if they'll fit properly with the new coilovers.

The jongbloed was going to be my replacement hahaha. FlyinMiata just had a group buy that I missed. You know where I can get a set?! <3 long time

Car ran great and suddenly shut off. Now there's no spark. Getting a new coil driver module in the mail to see if that's the problem. I wasn't there when it happened but my mechanic started it the next morning after the vid, pulled it out of the shop, and after it ran outside for 2 mins or so it was like someone turned off the key. Weird. Surely an electrical issue

We did. Nothing found. The COP driver for my kit is an oem vw/Audi unit so I'm not totally surprised if it failed. Coming Tuesday or Wednesday. Well see what happens.

You're welcome to try on my 6ULs and see if/how they will fit.

15x9 +36 225/45/15 RS3. You may want to go wider tire, but a 225 really gives you a crisp response and steering feel and enough grip to satisfy my needs. Our cars do differ however.

If I did a 15x9 the plan was a 225/45, so we're definitely on the same page

Also, sent you that info.

Thanks. I just don't know if I want to go through the process. I'd probably want to get the new wheels already with tires and sell mine with tires if I do anything at all. Not throbbing at the idea of spending 1200-1500 on wheels and tires when mine look similar, weigh similar, and fit identically.

Still to do

Fix ignition issue
Replace proportioning valve (leaking)
Install SS brake lines and bleed out old fluid, fill with ATE Superblue
Install Walbro 255lph pump
Remake hotside FMIC pipe (hits fog light)
Trim coldside FMIC pipe (hits fog light)
Heatsleeve water lines and areas around downpipe
Modify Oil Pressure Gauge for the MiataRoadster sender
a few little things

I'm kinda hoping this can all get done Thursday and I can finally take it for a little drive. Should be coming home very soon.

Installed my can. Also got the new Walbro in.

From valve cover into can, through steel wool, out of can, through PCV valve, into intake manifold. Breather is hooked up to valve cover via a PCV as well.

Running without any more injector leaks.

Looks good! I assume that is a check valve between your catch can and the intake manifold right? Definitely need that!

Sure is. Though the hoses at the can are actually backwards but we're going to re-do that. At least we have the location and orientation nailed down.

Well the rattle I heard before that I thought was the pistons was probably the rod bearing all along. And all probably due to running the Amsoil break-in oil for 500 miles like the bottle said, which was way too long for a first oil change in my opinion. We started the car this time, ran it till the fan cycled twice, gave it some revs, and drained it. Came out super clean.

We used Lithium grease on the metal contact surfaces to cushion everything for first start. Some vaseline too haha.

Also got my new catch-can today. It's an ADD W1 CNC machined silver can. Has a breather and closed circuit option (going with breather and PCV delete) and a dipstick to check the level. It also has a spot to put some material to catch the oil on it's way in.

I bet you had no shortage of that.

Final setup

Really needs warmup and timing correction. Injector pulse width is too high which is basically soaking the hot plugs when the car dies and fouls them. Car dies because lack of timing when radiator fan kicks on. All will be corrected. At least I put a few miles on it and got some fresh 93 :-) feels great to drive it again.

Brakes all done. Installed the ss lines, new proportioning valve, blue illegal fluid, and lots of heat sleeping and wrapping.

edit: did some research and according to the Denso site the plugs I have IK27 are a HEAT RANGE 9 what the?!

FM says "What`s the downside? In theory, more ignition noise in your stereo. We haven`t actually experienced that nor have we received any reports of problems from our customers. But you have been warned. You might also get a little burble at idle. These are a heat range 7 which is great for high power, but are going to be more prone to fouling if the car has starting problems. We used to run #7 plugs in all our turbo cars until a few years ago." They're talking about their NGK V-power Racing plugs, but if a #7 has the disclaimer, I understand why the 9 would be terrible.

So my gugy ordered some IK22 models which are a #7. Ideally I'd like to get the IK20 #6 but the 7 I feel will be a bit better. If not, I'll step down. We're going to change some MS settings before firing them up though.

Car runs and drives. Needs temp compensation adjustments. Ran great and had awesome AFR and temps on a 55* day, next morning it ran at 10:1 under light load and 14:1 on decel. Needless to say I've got another fouled set of plugs, so one more set is coming. Put 50 miles on it so far. Staying out of boost. Wastegate nut is backed out to avoid boost under break-in but it sounds awesome!

Throwback

Breaking in a fresh motor is an old wives tale. You just have to seat the rings which happens while idling the motor up to operating temp and then the final 5-10% of the ring seating process happens at WOT.

Here is a good read: http://www.laskeyracing.com/shop/breakin.htm

Car looks amazing BTW. Great job with the build!

The biggest concern is the differential builder said the first 300 miles should be easy, and to drain the unit and re-fill at 500 miles. I'm not taking chances.

Thanks! Car looks identical on the outside as to what it did before, and while it's pretty, I think the best stuff is under the hood.
