Just to add a bit to what the other guys said, doing that will put you into a HUGELY fast class by the time you come out to an autocross where you will have an awful lot of trouble being even a little bit competitive. It's only $50 to come out and try it to see if you like it and if you do like it, you can take a look at the rule book and pick a class that you want to run in so that you don't do certain mods that bump you into the highest classes. Just a suggestion, at our South Jersey events you'll get 8+ runs so it's a really good value for $50 and then you'll get $15 of that back if you're hooked and become an SCCA member.

All the money you dump into that car and you can't set $50 aside to learn how to drive it???

When something has foibles and won't handle perfectly, that gives it a particularly human quality as it makes mistakes. That's how we can build a relationship with a car that other people just won't get - Jeremy Clarkson

Ciotti.

"Autocross is Awesome" is an opinion. - That Statement is a fact.

In my opinion Autocross is for people either too poor or afraid to drive their car on a road course.

If I could drive a true road course I would do it.

Autocrossers do have a lot of skills though, there's no denying that.

Auto cross is the first step into the big leagues when it comes to NASCAR,Time Attack, etc.

why would you pay x amount to slide around a parking lot?

And most people cant afford to pay to run road course.

you can't just go from nothing to a raod course. You need to practice and start small first. Just like you can't just jump into porn, you gotta smack your junk around in front of a mirror a couple times first.

Actually, Karting is a Feeder to the big leagues, or at least more so than autocross.

I haven't paid to slide my car in a parking lot yet, so I don't know. I would assume though, due to the nature of drifting, I would do it so that I don't risk legal repercussions for my actions because drifting on the street is frowned upon. Though, if I felt the need to do some awesome grip driving I would just go hit the twisties - which isn't as risky as street drifting.

And You agreed with my whole, Autocross is for people too poor to run on a road course.

Actually, you can.

It's called being smart and knowing your limits. You're assuming that someone with no prior grip driving experience would go out on a road course and try to go as fast as possible, which would be dumb and only and idiot would do.

As far as the porn analogy, I don't really get it? If I've got the build and skills to do porn, why would I need to smack my junk around in a mirror? Shouldn't I be out honing my skills with various female companions?

I still kind of disagree on the road course thing. I believe that EVERY driver has to experience first hand what it's like to go beyond the limits. You are right in that a smart person would slowly creep up to a faster level, pushing it only when they feel comfortable that they've surpassed the present level. However, that driver still has yet to understand the physics of the car BEYOND the limits and beyond that threshold of being in a straight line, or spinning a 360°. Sure, you could do that at a HPDE event, or road course event, but I wouldn't want to do it. I'd much rather make those kinds of mistakes and learning experiences in a much safer environment like autox because there's nothing to hit but cones, and not the gravel trap off of a turn in a road course.

Once you learn where the fine line of grip is, you can have better confidence in driving on the proper side of that thin line. At least.....in my opinion and experiences.

and the porn thing, it was just a bad attempt at a chuckle, and a bad example to back up my opinion

Welcome to the meet and TST. Don't forget to make a new user thread so everyone can hump your leg.

Oh, and Hello Kitty FTW. More JDM than Domo.

I didnt agree,i just laid down some proof behind what you said,it is expensive to run on a road coarse.

And i havent paid to autox, but yet i would. You'd pay to run at a clubloose event, same concept.

and how do you think people get into karting? you just dont buy a cart, you autox in a car first to get the feel, then your cross the kart.

I get all my autoX know how from my buddy sal. ciotti knows who he is.
