Yup, just plead not guilty. I was charged with the same thing, when I got to the courthouse the cop was all smiles and she offered me to pay the fine and drop the points before we even went in the room. I shook her hand and said "that's all I wanted." Walked in, she told the judge what we had agreed on, he said ok, down went the gavel and I was out like $125 but insurance never budged.

Relax, bud. When the dude with a drag Honda and a boosted daily that has had fast Honda's for years AND fabs his own parts tells the new kids on the block that they're doing it wrong, it's time to step back and learn something.

and for those who say they won't show up. I've been to court for tickets almost 25 times (yeah... lol) and they showed up EVERY SINGLE TIME.
you need to be unrememboral, you dont want them to have a reason to remember that they need to make this or that asshole pay a fine.

You have the right to fight it. Points are a PITA. They get expunged after a year (i beleave 2 or 3 a year) but the nature of the offence stayes with your driving record and insurance companys go back a maximum of 5 years on your driving history.
Now heres one thing you dont know and they dont want you to know. INS company's only look at your record once. Points dont get reported to your Insurance they get reported to the state. The only way Ins company's see your driving record is by a state record so it shows youer offence and your points. So if you get a points offence its not going to affect your insurance unless you change carrier's They only report offences directley to Ins company's if its a licence suspendable offence. Points dont affect your insurance they affect your licence. The nature of your offence is what affects your insurance this is why it sticks with you for X amount of year's the points may be gone but its still on your record Get enough points and they suspend your licence, This is why whenever you get a no points offence its dosent go on your . 5MPH and failure to obay a traffic control device dont get repoirted to the state thus it dosent go on your record thus Ins wont see it.

Take it to court and see if you can get it knocked down to a no points offence so it wont go on your record.

Depends on the company. I worked for allstate and they never looked at it during a renewal. It cost's them to look it up again.

Def a myth. I've had the cop not show and the judge step in to bargain with me instead.

Clarification from the DMV:

Quote:
Point Removal for Safe Driving
Three (3) points are removed from a driving record for every 12 consecutive months a person drives (from the date of the last
violation) without a violation which results in points, license suspension or revocation. Once a driving record is reduced to
zero and remains at zero points for 12 consecutive months, any further accumulation of points is treated as the first
accumulation of points.

Points count up to a licence suspension.

ALWAYS plead not guilty and take it to court. Nine times out of ten they'll drop the points.
