Venom must enter the blood stream in order to effect you, when you eat/drink it your stomach acid destroys it before it enters but I suppose if you had ulsers or cuts in your mouth you could see some effects but because of the acidity of saliva I would guess they would be minor. Being cooked may make a difference (i don't know) but I know in some countries they even eat live scorpions and see no ill effects.

troll posted that.... maybe have some fun with one of the offspring?
I wouldn't call it fun but to each his own. This fact is wrong for many reasons. Firstly a few drops would not do anything. Alcohol in large amounts I would imagine could dehydrate a scorpion and when they dehydrate the will shrvel up and it could look like it was stinging itself. Secondly Scorpions are immune to their own venom unless directly injected into their cerebral ganglion (cluster of nerves that acts as their brain)

Scorpions are very easy to care for once you get the tank set up with the proper humidity and temp, and a day/night cycle (I have lights on a timer) all you need to do is throw a few crickets in the tank a couple days a week, mist the tank occasionally to keep the humidity regulated and make sure they have water (some don't even need that). Every species is different so I can't give you a generic setup but if you are interested check out this site:
www.arachnoboards.com
specific care sheets can be found here:
http://visualadvance.com/invertcare/
they have a ton of info that can get you started with any species.

I would also recommend going with a less dangerous species as a starter. 2 of the most common starter species are:

Emperor Scorpion (Pandinus Imperator)- Big, easy to find, tough, and their venom is basically harmless. Only down side is they are very docile and spend most of their time underground.

Desert Hairy Scorpion(Hadrurus arizonensis/ Hadrurus spadix)- not as big as an emp but still large, easy to find, more aggressive, and their venom is a little more potent than an Emp but still pretty harmless.

You should have no problem finding one or both of these species at a pet store but verify what you get before hand, I have seen species mislabeled (thye just don't know what they have) so you could think you are getting one thing but you could end up with something much more dangerous.

When I shop online I usually go to www.strangecargoinverts.com , Graham is a good guy. If you don't see what you are looking for on his site send him an email, he sells a lot more species than he advertises.

If you have any questions PM me and I'll be happy to help any way I can
