I'm a huge apple fan but this product is a complete let down. It's nothing more than a jumbo iPod Touch. Plus you have to pay an additional $30/month for a data plan (can't utilize your existing AT&T data with it).
I agree with an earlier poster- there is absolutely nothing new or innovative here. *thumbs down Jobs*

The ipad is like a cat. It's a pet, it's cute, but it can't do any special tricks and is pretty lazy.
That's all this is. It isn't innovative at the slightest. C'mon, 64gb of storage without 3G and it's $899? That's a ripoff and a half. Even if it is touchscreen.

coming from an apple guy of 4 + years... i don't like it. can't run multiple apps at once, screen is probably hell to read books on, it's too close to an iphone for me to consider picking one up. maybe the second gen will be better.

Why even sucked in in the first place? You know that IS their strategy, right? It's the same thing they did with the ipod and iphone after it. They released incomplete products on purpose.

Hmm. I'm going to get one and mount it in my car
Then I'm going to buy a lot of big white Apple decals and put them on my car so Apple can sponsor me. Steve Jobs would definitely go with that. I'll be the iEvo. |

Here is what bugs me about it and what I think they could have done better...
1. no multi tasking. This thing gets 10hours of battery life and you cant listen to music while browsing the web, or chat with friends on aim while reading a book? 2. Its supposed to be great for net browsing with its large screen, yet flash is not supported so a lot of sites will not look right. 3. no stylus? I understand that apple wants you to use your hands to interact with it, but wouldn't it be more useful if you could take this thing to class and actually use to take notes while in class? Or they could have bundled some creative paint program to make this more attractive to the artistic/creative types that apple always seems to associate itself with. 4. no specific marketing. What is this for? The Iphone is a phone, the Itouch is a music player, and this is what? Best I can tell its supposed to be a book reader? 5. no native usb ports or at least an sd card reader without a dongle. I understand that this is a thin product, but how are you supposed to put pictures from your camera onto it? I was actually really excited when I heard they were coming out with a tablet. I kept thinking, apple does so much with their software then the hardware implies. The iphone isn't just a phone with a touch screen, its the software and how you interact with it that makes it so impressive of a product. This tablet on the other hand feels like it was a product that was rushed out the door, and most of its flaws are in the fact that it just runs the iphone os/apps and not a whole of specific things that would make a tablet a useful thing.

Good points Art... I'm pretty much on board with you on all of them. This thing didn't pull me in enough to make me want to get one and I agree they haven't really lived up to their own impossibly high standards of wowing the masses here. For someone in the market for a netbook/e-reader or similar, I think they've got to take a look at this thing, but they probably wont be convincing many to make an unexpected purchase here.
In response to an earlier comment, I do have to say that the iPhone absolutely did set the standard, and was pretty revolutionary in the smartphone world. Of course there are copycats now, years later. Pretty much exactly what I was saying earlier about pushing the entire industry forward with their innovations.

Yeah the iPod and iPhone did revolutionize their respective markets. No one was doing a touch phone like apple until they came out with one.

I think a revolution is a proper term. I am still waiting for an evolution of communication systems and devices. This, sadly, is not.

Funny you said that. There's a vid on YouTube when you search ipad about that. It's pretty lol. I was just expecting for apple to announce the iPhone 4g in this conference. It seems to be a pretty cool product. If I got it as a gift I'd love it. Otherwise I'd rather hold of for something else. Would make a nice ereader though. I just got the Barnes & Noble Nook for my girl and it's pretty hott.

BS. School books are the biggest scam in the world and there is no way that they will allow for a digital version to be sold for 10bucks.
