so you're saying that if this kid was a better driver he wouldn't have lost control at 135 when a tire suddenly blows?

i'm pretty sure i'm a good driver... in fact, i know i'm at least competent and better than the average driver. I even had a track instructor ask me if i had track time after a few laps b/c it seems like i had experience.

i've had the mustang to 130ish... i'm pretty sure if a tire blew i'd be ****ed.

its not always the driver... and its not always the car.

Nah dude. If it was an STI, it wouldn't have happened. STI's are for real men.

girl takes father's porsche, after an argument i think, speeds into the concrete outside of a toll booth. pics of her show up online... everyone is grossed out.

accident situation is completely different than this one so i'm not sure why it was brought up.

i think what he's saying is more the driver having respect for the car and what its capable of, and having enough self control to not go ballz-out down the highway with your buddies in the car, rather than saving your a$$ when a tire blows out

This is true but some of these kids dont respect fast cars they just get in and go.

This story reminds me of a filthy rich kid that went to high school with me he had an 06 mustang gt, it was REALLY riced I mean the full ugly body kit and the horibble 18" chrome rims that he had, and so one day leaving school he decides to show off to my friend and making fun of him because he had the v6 model mustang and so the rich kid gets on his car leaving school and whipps the back end out and loses control of the car and goes right into a mini van and wrecks his car. Luckily everyone was ok.

why are any of us going 135 down the highway? its not smart at any age. and we don't know **** about the kid driving either... for all we know he's been running drag cars at the strip since he was 8.

i'm not justifying the kid's actions... he could have killed multiple people and he's a moron. but he's a moron like pretty much every other teenager going through puberty with a **** ton of testosterone in him and a quick car.

The entire point is, they need stricter testing requirements for a license. I don't agree with a HP cap... but it needs to be harder to get a license.

I agree. They should actually teach you to drive. (i.e. an aggressive/defensive driving course)

Gents I could not agree more.

People need to actually have some skills to handle a car, not just turn and signal at 15mph and parallel park

Having lived in Germany, and having driven as much as I have here and the proper schooling that I did end up receiving as a result of my old job. The license testing here is a JOKE.

If you fail the permit test alone, it's bad enough, if you fail todays CURRENT driving test then you shouldn't be allowed to drive period.

HOWEVER, in this case, while speeding and being wrong...if the tire did in fact blow out, no one in this thread would have had the ability to recover it any better than he did, he is fortunate to have lived.

Maybe I'm getting old (26) but.....why would you have or need an STi, GTO, M3 or some other "fast" car at 17 or 18? What exactly do you aspire to after highschool when you have cars like that? I remember the good old days when people didn't have top of the line models in highschool and the guys that were into cars drove older cars that they fixed up. They apreciated their cars and took better care of them because of what they had invested into it. It's hard to "apreciate" something when it's just given to you. Guess it's a Jersey thing.

My first car (that I drove through highschool) was a '86 V6 camaro, looked really nice, slowest car evar. But I loved it either way.
