Thanks but no thanks to your family intervention. This isn't what I'm talking about here.

Patience is a virtue.
you need to clearly communicate your expectations to people if you expect them to to be met.
it sounds like you had your expectations planned out in your head and in your head things were not going accordingly, you then got angered and you re-acted to your own anger.

I took my GF's car to toyota this weekend for a sticking gas pedal.I made sure I fully understood what work i was paying for and what work they would be doing and in what time frame it was all taking place.

Sadly the bottom line is, you didn't communicate your expectations,so it is nearly impossible for the shop to have met them.

my question is, when you went back to check on it, did you ask specifically when they were going to work on it, and when it would be done?

Just read somewhere that millions of toyotas are being recalled for sticking pedals, might want to check that out

Alex, you totally did the right thing getting the car back. If I caught the dude unloading **** from my car I would have totally lost it. I'm surprised you didn't take the keys back then and there. There is absolutely no reason they should put mileage on YOUR car, use up YOUR gas just to get business done at the shop. The business should have its own vehicle(s) specifically for that purpose. I hope this is a learning experience for you though. Never trust mechanics. I took my car to a mechanic one time two and a half years ago and they ****ed up my engine start button and ****ed with my S-AFC fuel settings.

false, being recalled for faulty mats which push up and over the gas pedal causing it to stick down

Ehh can't blame the guy.
When I need to get anything done on my car I always try to be there right when they open up so that I can get in and out without being a bother.

False? no year was specified, so I just posted out the obvious recall for toyotas, you wouldn't believe how many people get caught up with not knowing the mat gets stuck, it happens in a lot of cars

Don't stress out Alex, If his shop won't get to it, we will. Again, I am off on thursday and I'll come help you or you can bring your car to my house. whatever you prefer.
Alex's shop is always going to be that way, just the way he has been. He is a great mechanic to know, just likes to make his money over completing favors.
no big deal, I think you/we can fix it thursday if you have the parts already.

first of all, a fuel filter on a miata IS a cake job. you said it yourself.

why didnt u just finish it? you had one line off, all that was left was the other line...wtf?

doin those was awesome. doin an FD rx7 fuel filter....not awesome

i personally dont see the problem with the guy using your car to run a SHOP required errand. especially if you ASKED THEM TO DRIVE IT. thats just nonsense on your part....

alex, I understand your frustration. Ive been there before. But having worked in shops beforehand, ive been on the other side of the yelling and i see both angles...

you're upset bc a simple job wasnt done quickly. but what you need to see is beyond your work being done. the odds of the mechanics sitting on a chair waiting for you to arrive are slim. they probably had others cars to work on, with promised completion times, and werent able to jump right on it.

timeframe stuff is one of things that need to get talked about before you take a car anywhere. get a real expectation of what time will be spent to get the car back.

saying "it took them 5 hours to do my springs" doesnt tell the whole story just because you dropped it off at 10 and picked them up at 3.

You could of complained to him instead of complain on here?

By the way he might of had appointments in the book before you, by the time you came by the night before. Just do it yourself next time if it is such a simple job.

Yeah, all shops use customer cars to do part runs! Kills 2 birds with 1 stone (test drive / get parts). Plus, if they were using your car for a parts run, it's very likely that they had another car already in the garage that they needed parts for?

+1

They typically only take cars that NEED test drives.
