I just got an email form the organizers of the track day. Apparently its been canceled. I'm not sure if its because of the NASA event at the track the same day or another reason. This summer several track days I've signed up for throough diffrent groups have been canceled. Soem said it was due to scheduling conflicts and others were due to a lack of entrants.

I'm betting it's from lack of interest...it is Labor Day weekend, after all--which is why I didn't sign up in the first place.

Um, can you say, "Crash in turn one!"?

Please do not try running drag radials on a road course. At least not at any event I am at, as the clean up from the ensuing failure/crash will cut into my track time. Thanks.

I've never been to a road couse. Why would it crash though? And why aren't those tires allowed?

It's like bringing a wheelie bar to an autocross....dosent really make much sense. Tires are designed to fit an application, whether it's daily driving, winter driving, all around sport driving, autocross, or drag racing. Use the right one for the right situation.

On top of that they are suppose to run certain tempertures for max grip, not sure if that would matter in this case, but something tells me drag temps would be different then autocross temps.

Drag radials have very soft sidewalls and are for short duration, low heat, straight line sprints. Running a road course create massive amounts of g-loads on the sidewalls and high temps on the treads. Your drag rads would roll over and shred under the weight of your goat entering turn two on North. My Miata, on R-comps, would top out at 100mph entering T1, carry 80mph through to the entrance of T2 where I would load 1.0G @ 50mph at apex.

Ther was a pretty large turnout. They had both races and HPDE that weekend. The garages were full and there were a lot of cars parked outside of the garages in the paved and gravel parking areas. Also, there were quite a few people there that never drove on a track before. The HPDE-1 group probably was 20-25 cars. The other HPDE groups all had about 20-25 cars each. For being a holiday weekend it was pretty packed.

Yea thats not bad at all. Sometime I feel its not safe when they put inexperianced drivers on at the same time with people that have had track time before but hopefully with instructors its all good. I'm gonna try and go the the September 28th event hoster by tracktime4cars.com in Millville, NJ at NJMP just because track time is always fun.

If it's your first time especially, you want to ensure you check over all of your fluids, and be sure to bring some extra of each. Another thing to look at are your brake pads...if you generic/oe replacment/ebc green stuff style pads, you are going to use A LOT of material. I would go as far as to say that you want at least 6/32 to 7/32 material left...and even that may be stretching it depending on the pad (what I'm getting at, is that you'll probably need to replace pads by the end of a day, unless they are brand new to start, or a track pad.

Take the time to jack you car up, and inspect everything. Make sure all rod ends and joints are solid, and that everything looks in perfect shape. Also ensure that your cv axles are in good shape if FWD (i'd assume so by your username) as well.

Lastly, you'll want to get your ENTIRE car of anything extra...floor mats, cd cases, empty the door pockets, seat pockets, center console, glovebox...because they're gonn make you remove it all. The only stuff you want in the car, is your helmet, your tools, spare parts/fluids, a pen, and a folding chair if you have one. Nothing else. Once you get to the track, obviously take that all out, and get your spare tire out as well, unless it's secure.

Aside from that, listen to your instructors, keep focused, and be safe. It's easy to get frustrated, while at the same time easy to get mad as well...remember, while you may be 'racing' in yoru head, it's only an HPDE...so there is no reason to risk yourself/car/other people by doing anything extravagant. Again, listen to instructors and take their advice...they are the PROs...

Like Jay Leno recently said, 'All Men think they are experts at two things...sex, and driving a race car....yet most men don't have much experience with either' hehe.

It would be neat to see that car on this course, simply because of the size. Great chance for him to get some time.
so that means if i went id have to leave the sub box and rear seat at home. hmmm half hour drive of nothing but the sound of my exhaust. i could check with the Rent to see if our cabin is being rented that weekend and maybe use it for anyone goin to this. free place to sleep if needed
