I haven't been to many AutoX events this year. I planned to do more of them, but it seems like I always have something else to do the same day or I have to work. I'll put it on my calender.

Nice stang. if you can get your 60' under control there isn't any reason you can't pull a low 13.

I ended up ordering the brake cooling duct kit form Quantum Motorsports at the beginning of August. They told me that it was in stock and woudl ship the next business day. Two weeks later I didn't have the kit, so I called them and they said that some parts had to be sent out for powder coating and my kit woudl ship soon. I waited another two weeks and nothing was delivered yet. I called them several times and left messages. I didn't get a call back from them yet and I've called several tiems over several weeks. Wonderful customer service there. Now I can't get a hold of them to cancel my order so that I can buy a brake cooking duct kit from someone else.

My front Koni Yellows are still on back order until mid October.

I went out to Island Dragway tonight for the last Friday Night Street Legals. I made back to back 13.3 passes.

I still haven't been able to get the 1.8-1.9 second 60' times other Mustang owners got on stock tires. Maybe its just the track prep at Island Dragway. With a 1.8-1.9 second 60' times the car should run 12.9-13.1. I'll have to wait for next season and passes at a different track for that I guess.

My Konis are still on backorder. The ship date keeps getting pushed back. First it was August, then September, then October. Koni North America recently said mid December to late December until they get them. Then they have to ship them to me.

I finally got around to dynoing the car after I put on the Steeda intake and Steeda 91 octane Cali Emissions tune. It gained gained 15 HP and 18 lb-ft of torque peak at the wheels from just an intake and a tune. The stock programming is for 87 octane gasoline and California emissions. Both dyno pulls were done on the same dyno with 10% ethanol gas from the same gas station.

With the intake and tune, it makes more torque at the wheels from 3700 RPM to 5300 RPM than it did at the peak stock and it makes more power from 4800 RPM to 6400 RPM than it did at the peak stock. THe maximum horsepower gain was 20 HP at 6000 RPM and the maximum torque gain was 19 lb-ft at 4700 RPM

Top is stock dyno bottom intake and tune dyno.

Sorry about the crappy print quality. The shop needs to clean the heads on its printer.

I dyno'd my cobalt ss at performance specialties, good guy, let us dyno our on car (drive it). The place is so small, LOL. I do not like how they don't adjust the scaling on their dyno sheets since call cars hp and tq crosses at 5252.

Performance Specialties in Pottstown? They SUCK, HORRIBLE! They are by far the worst shop I have ever dealt with. The idiot blew up my motor, and then damaged brand new heads of mine on my 05 GT I use to have.

His dyno isn't accurate either. I have a HUGE story about it all, it was posted here and on multiple forums.

Ok, sorry to hijack thread.

Looking good Chris.

I'm working on that. I have to convince my friend's wife to get rid of her rusting, hasn't run in 9 years, can't move under its own power, four flat tires, mold covered 1982 pontiac bonneville so we have garage space again.

Yea, Ray lets most people run their own cars on the dyno. The shop does good work from what I heard form most people and has pretty good prices too.

It really doesn't matter much. HP and Torque only cross at 5252 because the formula used to calculate HP from torque uses 5252. It makes it easier to see small changes in both HP and torque if they do the auto scaling.

I've heard good and bad stories about many shops. I'm not surprised to hear a few bad stories about any shops. I have to say that some of the guys that worked there in the past seemed to be lacking in a few skills or were a bit forgetful about a few things. It did concern me that one fo Ray's employees only wanted to use 3 straps and no wheel chocks to dyno my car at first.

What I've noticed about his dyno is that its consistent and accurate when he gives SAE numbers. The other methods seem less accurate. I dynoed one of my cars at Performance Specialties and a month later, I drove to Atlanta for a car club meet and dynoed my car there. The SAE numbers for both were within a few HP of each other from 3000 RPM to 7000 RPM. Also, my dyno results on a Mustang Dyno at another shop and the dyno at Performance Specialties seemed pretty consistent. The Dynojet was a few HP higher, but the power curves were almost identical.

I'll look for the story about the dyno innacuracies. I'm interested in seeing what it says.

If this wasn't my daily driver I'd be looking to swap in an aluminum block 5.4 and a twin turbo kit. If I did that I'd be afraid of driving it to work because some idiot might run a red light and total it.

Chris, the story I posted was about the work Ray did. Just to give you a quick description, how about he installed my supercharger on my 05, it was the vortech non intercooled one, and he used a tune that he did from another 05 that had a vortech INTERCOOLED kit, and used that tune on my car, and barely changed anything. On top of that, he never bothered to install an IAT sensor, so the car wasn't pulling timing...and well, 2 days later.....motor went boom.

Here is my thread about it http://www.tristatetuners.com/forum/...ad.php?t=17469....there is another thread here somewhere with pictures of the damage.

I installed the Kooks long tube headers, high flow cats, and H pipe on Feb. 28th with the help of a friend. The car isn't much louder at idle, but definitely is louder and has a different tone at full throttle.

I dynoed the car this afternoon. Stock it made 279.9 HP and 295.5 ft-lbs at the rear wheels. With the Steeda CAI and Cali emissions tune for the CAI, it made 295.6 HP and 313.1 ft-lbs at the rear wheels. With the headers installed and the same 91 octane Cali Emission tune, it made 311.3 HP and 325.2 ft-lbs at the rear wheels. The A/F ratio was nearly perfect from 3500 RPM to 6500 RPM. I have a 93 octane 49 state tune that I haven't installed yet. It should get me a few more horsepower at the rear wheels.

The peak numbers don't tell everything. The area under the curve is much greater. Also, now the car makes more horsepower form 4600 RPM to the rev limiter than it made at the peak when it was stock. It makes more torque from 3500 RPM to 5500 RPM than it made at the peak when it was stock. After the headers and intake, when compared to stock, the greatest HP gains were an additional 37 HP at 6100 RPM and 31 ft-lbs at 6100 RPM. When the car was stock I only wound it out to 6100 RPM on the dyno. Now it pulls well to 6500 RPM+.

The shop's printer is low on one color ink, so the printout of the dyno doesn't look great. I got a copy of the dyno runs on floppy(yes 3.5" floppy disk. The dyno computer is running Windows 95 ) and used Dynojet's WinPep software to make a screen capture comparing my results. The blue line is stock, the red line is with the intake, and the green line is with the headers.

I ordered my set of Koni Sports(AKA Koni Yellows) back in the beginning of June. The front struts were on back order, but I received the rear shocks quickly. I was told that the front struts would arrive in a few weeks. Well, the delivery date kept getting pushed back. First the delivery date was August, then September, then November, then December, they I was last told that I would have them no later than the end of January. After that, Koni stopped saying when they would arrive.

One of my former coworkers got knocked up on June and had her baby earlier this month. I found it unacceptable that Koni couldn't make the hundred or so sets of front struts in 9 Months when a human life can be created in the same time. I was starting to think about getting a set of coilovers even though I didn't want coilovers to begin with.

I received good news recently that my Konis Sports were air freighted to the U.S. by Koni and are in U.S. customs now. I'll have them shortly after they clear customs, which should be the first week of April.

I have to thank Sam Strano form www.stranoparts.com for keeping me and the other Koni customers updated along the way. I could have bought my shocks and struts for less from one of his competitors, but he has great customer service and is very knowledgeable about setting up the 2005+ Mustangs for AutoX and track use. Those that are unfamiliar with Sam might want to do google and youtube searches for him. He has many SCCA divisional and national wins in his stock class Mustang.

Now all I have to do is order some springs and camber plates when the shocks arrive. I'll probably get the Steeda Sport spings. I want osmething that will lower the car about an inch. My old Mustang had the FRPP/Eibach springs which were a 2" drop. I found that was a bit too much for the roads around here.

The Tire Fairy

The tire fairy stopped by. I got one set od 255/45-18 Continental ExtremeContact DWS for street use and one set of Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08's in 255/40-18 for track/autoX use. The AD08's are stamped with a 255 width, but like most street tire class tires, they are a bit wider. They are as wide as 275 width tires.

I finally got around to finishing the brake cooling ducts install.

At first, I tried to hide the inlets behind the stock lower grill, but the inlets wouldn't fit correctly that way.

So, I had to put the inlets in front of the grill piece. I might switch the bolts to black bolts.

This is how the ducts are routed behind the inlets.

And they go to the hubs and blow cool air into the center of the rotors. The air runs through the rotors and out of the holes in the edge to keep my brakes cool at the track.

Between the ducts and the Hawk DTC-60 brakepads, I should be ready for my next track day.

Next I have to install my Steeds Sport Springs, adjustable panhard bar, front Koni Sport(Yellow) shocks, and my Steeda camber plates. The front Koni Sports were on back order for 10 months. I can't wait to get them on the car!

Looking great so far.

I'm suprised to see uncorrected numbers, been a long time. so corrected stock 268.61, modded 299.34.. lil more realistic but certainly respectable...love the car and wish i had it

Its a 3500+ lb car with me in it. The pads heat up quickly. I've had issues with my HP+'s smoking and buring up in the past. Hawk brake told me to skip the Black pads because they are made for lighter cars and that the 9012's are an old compound. They recommend DTC-60's and DTC-70's for my application. My last track day witht he HP+'s I was braking early and not as hard so I wouldn't overheat the pads. Most of the other S197 owners I know that do track days regullarly use the DTC-60's in the front and HT-10's in the rear or DTC-60's on all 4 corners on performance street tires with good results.

They aren't uncorrected, they are Standard corrected. There is actually a long story about how the Standard correction for Dynojets came about involving a popular 1980's motorcycle. Going with SAE corrected its around 273 HP stock and 303 HP modified. Uncorrected results were even higher than the STD correction. Uncorrected with just the intake and tune was over 300 at the wheels.

I wouldn't have suggested the HP+ for the reasons you noted and experienced, but the DTCs are a really aggressive pad and the AD08s aren't that sticky...be mindful of lack of bite on first application, or after long(ish) periods of non-use (like entering T1 of Lightning)...then once hot you need to watch for lock-ups (or overly intrusive ABS). I would have thought Blues, HT-10s or mix of those two. . Interesting that Hawk said not to use the Blues because it's an older compound...if it's old and not suggested then discontinue the product--sometimes I don't understand manufacturers.

Regardless, keep at it and have fun! Hope to see you out an event sometime!
