Wanna kill baddies do infantry, telecommunications will get you very far in the army, special ops is another option to mix the both.

I wanted to do special forces very much, but too many people go for airborne to become a ranger then special forces and fail. I'm content enough with what my job is

Can you explain more about the telecom and special ops? I would also like to know when you get that bonus and if either telecom or spec ops have bonuses attached to them. I have been interested in miltary life as long as I can remember but have been drawn away from it for stupid and superficial reasons. Thanks for all the info you can give me before you leave tomorrow.

Well certain job's in special ops can call for telecommunications at certain times and that's if you want to see action basically, if you want to stay in the "somewhat" safe then there are communication's job's all accross the board, I am not an expert at it but just going to the army site you can find the best one your looking for, depending on how you score on your asvab test can determine alot to what job you qualify for. They can't give you all your bonus at once for tax reason's the most they can give you at a given time is 10k, but with taxe's youll get about 7800 of it when you get out of tech training, and then depending on how much more you have, you get it over a certain period of time.

Damn those are hefty bonus's. The marines don't even give any. I'm more than likely going to apply for OTS for the marines so I can get a guaranteed aviation commission. I'm really good at math and I'm very physically fit so I don't think I'll have a problem. The only ****ty part is that I'd be committed for 8years. But, 2 years in Florida for slight school, and then flying fighters off a carrier day in and day out sounds kinda fun.

I don't know what the army really considers overweight. I have the aviation weight/height charts but not the normal ones for everyone else. No doubt they'll make you PT your ass off anyway. I'v just been reasearching pilot requirements. It's really really really tough standards set on pilots physically. Especially since I want to fly fighters and not cargo/transport.

My brother served in the First Cavalry... I wish I could forget the horror stories he told me when he got back from Iraq :/

These are the jobs army guy says I can do:

Intelligence Analyst (35F)

Signals Intelligence Analyst (35N)

Signals Collector/Analyst (35S)

Psychological Operations Specialist (37F)

Special Forces Weapons Sergeant (18B)

Special Forces Communications Sergeant (18E)

Halp?

My brother is special forces and he told me he loves it but he wishes he had started with MI which I actually like what I am reading about so far.

From a post-military career (you know you can retire after 20 years and you'll be what? 38y/o?) stand point, the 35F, 37F and 18E have the highest potential. While 18B sounds interesting, what private sector skills will you get? That is unless you want to do a short stint in the military and parlay that experience and a college degree into a career with justice department (FBI/CIA/HS), then most of the specialties listed will be good.

That said, most of those jobs look like desk positions, so if you are inclined to be an office rat then you are golden...but if you want excitement, then the 18B and 18E probably would get you some.

Also consider the combat life expectancy of each position (if your recruiter can provide you with that). My bro was going to be a Blackhawk flight engineer, then he realized how often those things go down. He opted to become an in flight refueler, that also qualifies him to be a load master (think FedEx/UPS as post-mil career). I don't think any of the positions you listed would put you directly in harms way, but your recruiter should be able to tell that info.

I was thinking of Human Intelligence because you get to interrogate and gather data from people on the battle field all the time(from what the description says) and also Psychological because you get to psyche the enemy out and try to convince population centers that bad guys are bad, etc(again, from the description on the site). Also, 2 years in I could be eligible for Counterintelligence which is even more interesting and is basically gathering intelligence from enemy transmissions and using that intelligence to the Army's advantage and using it against them or creating intelligence against the enemy, which, again sounds interesting and has a high potential in the civil field or even a federal agency like NSA, CIA, or FBI, which is very attractive to me. Intelligence never gets sung in songs, but they put all the pieces together for the combat teams to make it happen. Comba as SF would be also good because it would be an incredible challenge like the which I've never experienced.

Find another recruiter... if they say your are qualified to be specail force just by your asvab they are blowing smoke up you ass..... I was an Army Ranger , sniper and end my tour as the PSA (body guard) for the 2Id Commander i thoght i was pretty f'n high speed and i had buddies that were way more high speed than me fail Selection for SF.

Sorry to rant, but i don't want to see you join and get screwed.... make sure whatever MOS you get is in writing....
