You fail to cease my growing respect for your whit and uncanny ability to call it like it is. That last line, that's a seriously powerful and thought provoking bit. Thanks, I just filed that away.

This is true, there have been many wars in the name of religion, but do you think that if religion didn't exist, the wars would have never happened?

Nothing would be different. People are people and they will always find a reason to fight or put each other down. Religion is just one of their excuses for doing the terrible **** they do. So is pride, respect, liberation, fear, etc...

Oh and the only thing worse then a bible banging christian is a fact finding atheist.

Lets face it...deep down inside we all know that this is all BS, but if some people in the world want to believe in it, then let them. And this is coming from me, a totally not religious person. I just hate it when guys like Penn and Teller try to tell people what to think or how to live their life, the same way that I hate the jehova witnesses that bang on my door trying to get me to convert.

I used to think that there was something out there, I dont anymore at all. There is no forgiving and good god, if there really was hes got some sense of humor because seeing everyone you know die young through no fault of their own cant be right. I've personally decided that religion is just there as a crutch for weak people who cant accept their own actions, or that things really do happen. But just because you cant explain it doesnt mean some eternal being was pulling the strings.

The Bhuddists and Taoists have it right. Dont respect one person, respect the fact that today is here and you will have the gift of tomorrow soon. Respect that something happens and you will be able to make the choice most times on what happens, and if not be happy the choice was made for you. Respect the world around you because when you die you become the world around you. Much better reasons for living IMHO. not just because some uptight man in the clouds says so.

these threads always result in the same thing... however, i will give my opinion... and in some cases in regards to what has been posted.

let me first start with this... i don't believe in god. I don't believe a single entity could create everything... that no entity has within in it the knowledge or ability, no matter how divine, to create...everything, to the smallest detail. the universe does not work as a well oiled machine, it certainly didn't start out the way it is now either. it evolved, it is still evolving... things work, because they've managed to survive evolution.

science has only theories... religion, has only "truths"... i'd rather follow something that questions, rather than answers... religion does nothing more than answer, everything... all the questions we have, that have no answer... because we are unable to devise one based on the given knowledge we have already. so instead, some look to a book, find a simple answer (b/c god said so) and are content... others, they question the question, they seek an answer through doing, perceiving, theorizing, experimenting... when they've got an answer from all that, they question the answer... question it until they are satisfied with the results

the bible? i believe it to be a history text book, or possibly just a fantastic story... i believe it was written by well meaning men (or simply just a single man) and through ages, it was taken as gospel and turned into a religion... as then, religion was mostly what human's had to go off of, science... deeper thought into questioning one's world... was easier, it made sense... it gave man reason.

thats cuz u went to catholic school. (no offense to any of u out there) They are some of the worst corrupters of the meaning of christianity. If i had gone to catholic school id probly feel the same way. They worry about the little things waaaaay too much, and tend to miss the big picture. They really need to SMILE more.

the way i look at it is: my parents are roman catholic so thats what i am. i have an uncle that is a priest which makes me kind of more a catholic, but every time me and my uncle get into an argument, the only answer he has for me is "you have to believe" sometimes i feel like yelling but i do have respect for priests so i rather walk away.

my question is, there is so many religions out there with different stories. how do i know mine is the real one? or why should i follow mine?
