Yeah... I just worry about being an early adopter if I get the black dots issue. Hopefully it will just be a firmware fix.

i've only seen that a few times. although there hasnt been that many people who've actually purchased one but I wouldnt worry. Especially because those are only seen at 100% crops, unless you use tight crops a lot haha

it only shows up on blown out highlights (street lights) and only occurs in the normal RAW mode. It's minor since it's not visible unless you print a billboard or look at everything at 100% crops. At web resolutions, it's not visible. It's a minor thing that people nitpick about.

I see where you're coming from in that it won't matter for the vast majority of people, but I don't think of it as "minor." Who buys a 21MP camera to look at things at 800px wide/72 dpi?

Oh, right. Most people. But for the people that actually want to use those pixels it's kind of a big deal, epecially photographers that would be coming from medium format.

I know I'm preaching to the choir, at least it's not as big of a deal as with the 1D3's when they first came out.

even if they only happen on 100% crops thats still ridiculous. They shouldn't happen at all. There shouldn't be any limitations in a camera especially when you pay 2500 or 3K for said camera.

Update:
I ended up buying the 5D mark II kit (with 24-105L) from Allen's Camera in Levittown. He is selling them for $100 off and was extremely nice to work with. I had it shipped to my office in DE, so no taxes.

Hopefully this weekend, I will have some time to set it up and mess around with it. They released a firmware release that fixes the black dots and banding, so everything is good to go.
