You want to get drag radials nice and hot, no pussy burnouts with them. Only downside is they dont last long...........

Where do drag radials come into play? I would think you would want to heat them up similar to a slick since they are such a soft compound. Input?
Fine, don't read my post.

Just so you guys know, you can over heat a drag radial. You wanna do a burn out until it starts to bring the rpm down the let it roll out a little bit.

I do it on street tires for about 3 seconds to get the water off from the water box (Atco doesn't allow you to drive around it) and get any rocks or pebbles out of the tires.

You should worried about how much air you have in your tires before you get to burnout.

if you have slicks about how long should you do a burnout, is there an average time or does it have many factors

I've never run slicks, but from what I've seen, like Sled said, the slicks will start to grab when they're heated.

almost every car has enough power to spin the tires off the line. i noticed a few people say they do them to get the water from the water box off, as well as any rocks or pebbles that are stuck to the tires. street tires do benefit from a burnout. go outside in the winter and feel ur tires, then in the summer, do a burnout for about 5 seconds, any longer is a waste. then feel ur tires. heat helps rubber get soft. softer rubber can conform to the pavement surface better and thus give u better traction. so whoever sais a burnout with street tires is a waste is wrong. but a long burnout with street tires is a waste.

Spinning street tires doesnt make them stickier, it makes them greasier which is no good.

This is def. a subject that I think varies on a solid answer depending on ambient temp and the temp your tires currently at.. It makes sense that when any form of rubber is heated it will give you more traction but at the same time if heated up TO much would create a slimy effect.

I think if its 20 degrees out any street tire should be warmed up a bit. If its 90 degrees out a street tire may already be at the temp it needs for max traction and doing a burn out would over heat it.

I think the answer to "should you do a burn out with street tires" should be... Not always, It depends.

Also ask any drifter it they feel a difference with their street tires after they warm up. You'll see pro's do a burn out before a session not to make their tires slip easiers but to get better traction to control and not "over" drift. If Im correct no drifter uses slicks.

im pretty sure none do cause it would be too much traction, as well as slicks lack the sidewall stability needed to slide sideways. but u put the burnout issue into pretty good perspective. it all depends. but at the very minimum, if ur gonna race ur car down a 1/4 miles strip, u need a burnout.

Most people say don't burnout in street rubber because the heat causes the blocks in the tread to squirm around under a hard launch or load which is true. Drag radials like ET Streets need a decent spin but not a John Force 1/8 mile smoke fest for heat and to clean them off. Something like these which doubles much better as a streetable tire compared to, say, ET Streets, needs just a small spin to clean off whatever water, debris, and small children are still stuck on them. They can quickly overheat and the tread blocks can want to walk around under a load.
