Exclusivity. The rarer the car, the easier it is to sell it.

Example: The only made 20 Reventons, every single one of them was sold before production even started. Those with money, want what they can't have, so they'll pay whatever they have to just to "have it"

That's more among the super rich, most other "mid" level exotics, such models including Gallardo, Vantage, F430/599 and etc. Mostly are sold on image/wow factor to those without a brain but the bills, TRUE enthusiasts with money will buy the best car for the money.

Theres nothing wrong with buying a car for the Image....a new corvette may be faster than a new Carrera, but i'd still have the Carrera anyday. Its just taste, you can't generalize and say that rich people buy cars for exclusivity and "wow" factor, hence not making them real enthusiasts.

Exactly, real enthusiasts don't buy for those purposes, however a good chunk of the people buying these cars just know what's hot and what looks best.

As a generalization, think of fashion, you have high end clothing that is expensive as balls but looks like the next JCPenny tshirt. It's the name that makes it so "wow" granted it may be quality clothing as well, but that's not what is catching people's attention. A portion of the people who can afford it, could care less what it's made out of/quality, they want the name sake, they want the "OMG i LOVE that shirt" from those who know what it is but cant afford it.

I've run into plenty of exotic customers that don't seem to have a clue about their cars, an owner of a new Vantage couldnt tell me what drivetrain the car had, "it caught his eye" when he bought it.

Well that only half of it. There are people that buy Ferraris and Lambos for their performance. You can't just say that real car enthusiasts all drive high power 240sx, STi, and DSM just because they can perform the same as high dollar cars.

You failed to read my post fully, I said a good amount are uneducated about the car itself, the real enthusiasts will buy the best car in that price range, be it ferrari/lamborghini/miata lol/whatever. I never said enthusiasts dont buy exotics. READ SON!
