I highly recommend it, those pictures you were looking at were from my first weekend using it and I was shooting some FAST cars at Thunderbolt.

I made no mention of an "L" requirement. My first suggestion isn't even an Canon brand.

Over the years, I've seen hundreds of people not listening to good, sound advice and buying a lens (or lenses) that aren't recommended, only to find out months later that they should've listened to their peers, selling off Lens A and buying the previously recommended Lens B. The same goes for camera bodies. I've been doing this for 10 years, basically about the same time you were learning how to add and subtract improper fractions in 5th grade. I've picked up on a few things here and there.

No, but I had read your earlier post as to compare everything else to them.

Pretty much every other lens other than the Canon 17-40 4.0L or 70-200 4.0L will be a disappointment, for $500 or less.
I still say it's absurd to claim that he would be disappointed with anything other than what you recommended.

The Canon 55-250 or 70-300 IS are not top of the line but I suspect he'd be more than pleased with them if he's looking for something with more reach than what he already has.

Captain: You may want to consider selling the kit lens, buying the IS version of it (net cost to you is like <$100) and using what you saved to buy something that covers a different focal length.. or save longer and buy something like the 17-55 2.8 IS or the 24-70L if you're really concerned about quality.

Again, you're reading too much into what others are posting and not what it is at face value. For under $500-600, there are only 4 lenses worth their money: Tamron 17-50 2.8, Canon 17-40 4.0L, Canon 70-200 4.0L, Canon 10-22 3.5-4.5 These are consistently proven to be the best in the low-end price range.

I have a used canon zoom at the photo shop I work at, well there are 2, I'll take a look at them and see what we have. They both have IS as far as I know.

.
You seem to have a problem reading the full comment. His comment is nearly 100% accurate. I bought the 24-85mm canon lens, $350 or so. I bought it to fill the gap between the 10-22mm and the 70-200mm... well it's garbage. I wouldn't sell it to a friend because i feel it's just that useless. It's not very sharp, and it's clumsy.
