My friend has a pair of bindings for sale
I believe they are ride and they are blue
He might also sell a black pair of burtons depending if he gets new ones or not
judging by ur weight and height, you should prolly get something between a 154-156
I am the same size as you and i have a ride 156 that i absolutely love.
but if your going to be doing alot of park riding then i would go for a 154

Step ins are lame because they can freeze up... or at least that happend when I rode rentals.

My 1st setup was just over $600. My current (2nd) setup is double that. For the first 2 seasons of boarding I rented and of course that sucked. Every time you rent you are most likely getting different boots and board. Its never the same as the last one you rode regardless of it being the same brand/size or whatever because of different wear.

I've boarded for 4 seasons and not the last 2. I didn't do hardly any rails but did jumps and competed in 2 boardercross events (placing 2nd the 1st one and didn't place the 2nd event because it was a 2 way tie for 3rd and the guy checked me on a banked turn sending me over the top and knocking the net down leading to a 10' fall and blacking out for a few seconds... LOL).

Snowboarding is fun and I'll be getting back into it this year. Friend has a place rented out in Cali this winter and a few of us will be going out for a week + the days on the road to and from. Going to be a road trip type of deal after us all giving it some thought and should be real fun.

don't get step-ins if you want good clean response between your feet and your board. Any freestyle board between 152 and 158cm would be a good beginner board, the bigger you go the more stable your board will be but it will make it a little tougher to learn how to turn. any freestyle board in that range should be soft enough for you to learn on, but also keep in mind it won't be fun when you learn to ride fast on a 154 freestlye board, mad squirrely. when it comes to equipment make sure your boots are comfy, and your exact size or hgalf size smaller since they break in. everyone should know there is nothing worse than riding uncomfortable boots, it will ruin everyday. Langhorne ski and sport is having a tent sale this weekend you can find new discounted and used equipment there, go early saturday to get the first deals. Brand new beginner boards start at 299. you could prob get used boots board and bindings for 300 in your size if you go while its all there. good luck.

I'll have to check out Langhorne Ski and Sport, Thanks for the heads up.

What are some of the local boarding forums you guys are on? Figure I might as well browse those too..

Never joined a snowboarding forum...

Look through the phone book and find local ski/board shops and find their website or give them a call and see when they are having their swap meets where the public can bring their stuff to sell. The local shop here had theirs like 3 weeks ago but its worth a try.

Langhorne is the shizzy-nozzy, man. Go RIGHT NOW and get yourself a killer deal while they are trying to move old product and get new stuff out. If you're looking for brands that are right in the middle of the road, try Ride. I swear by them; good product for good prices.

I've ridden step-ins since I started snowboarding when I was 9 years old (I'm 21 now... haven't missed a season)....

They're awesome. The new step-ins dont freeze up... I can rip just as hard as the strap-in guys in the park...

alright being that boarding is my life and i worked in a shop for a while. $300 you may be effed. if you live near langhorne ski and sport or anywhere not far from it go this weekend you will find something. look for a board that got a medium flex not too soft not too stiff. just an "all-mountain freestyle" board about 156-158 and make sure the boots are tight.... they will pack out a size if not used. bindings should have a medium stiffness highback.

when looking at a used board look at the bottom some scratches are fine but when you see any wood/fiber get it outta your hands and get rid of it. any major blowouts on the sides... get it outta here all these cause water to de-laminate the board and your screwed. scratches and crap can all be filled with p-tex and usually the edges can be sharpened.

watch out for any flaws in the bundings and when they are used look on the bottom make sure they are a LARGE binding, you need it.

boots are the most key ingredient in this whole thing. make sure they are not super soft, itll do nothing until you know park. you need response in your boots. with a still boot if you lose it a lil on the slopes itll cause your feet to move obviously so your response will be sudden. when in a soft/ park boot you wont have enough response, thats for alot of leeway for the park kids like myself to work with.

all this is very important so take AS MUCH TIME!!!! as you can with the boots.

NEVER BUY OFFLINE!

and as far as stance... always set your front foot to 15 degrees atleast 20 if you want. it makes it easier fot your knee movements and 0-3 degrees in the back also never go 0 and 0 its terrible for your knees and back.

for a park stance i have my feet pretty wide...(on my board as far as they go) and i rock 21 in the front and 18 in the back... its better for more surface coverage on rails and crap like that.

stick to these brands also...

burton (your mostly paying more for the name because they can do that to you...they're burton. but its good stuff)
atomic<my personal fav.
salomon
ride
omatic<#
sapient<another <3 of mine
palmers been in the game longer than anyone they are ungodly.
k2

not gonna hate on these but from the industry i learned that
lamar, world industries and companies that have brand new boards that are cheap dont work out to well later on

one last thing to remember and i cant stress this enough

Your paying for quality! you want it to last.

depending on the board binding combo and how you will be riding it you can always get the palmer power plates they are really for a better feel and more control of the board but they also give you a raise up so you have more clearance. maybe a mid-wide if you want to be safe. wide boards are not a must and they are slower response with turning (you have to cover more area)

i rode step ins one day cause i was borrowing my buddys setup i asked him if he minded if i took a trip to the park to see how they worked in the park and he didnt mind it so we took the trip over there and on a landing on a 35 foot jump my boot popped out and it also popped out on a rail so i had to use it as like a stomp pad it sucked. never trying those ever again.

wait which step ins are you referring too? the ones that have special boots that lock into the binding(more of a base) similar to how ski bindings are designed or the ones where the backs fold down and you put your foot in then fold the backs up? i was talking about the first ones

I've never had a prob with my burton step ins as long as you make sure your in all the way, which is just looking, no freezing or poping out but they did get a slight bit of play in them, but got a new set of bindings. But my new set up are not step ins and love em

wtf are "new step-ins" they pretty much stopped making step ins for years now for a reason...

but if you mean flow bindings then yea they are a great binding company with thier "new era redesigned" step in.

when riding step-ins your secured to a big clumsy boot by laces or strap, or whatever you have on your boot, and you're restricted to that bindings boot, meaning you won't find the perfect boot, only the most comfy of the crappy step-in boots. wheras with traditional boots and bindings you can pick any boot you like as long as it fits in your binding, and your secured to the board via the straps on bindings and not the tightness of the boot. They are easy to use, relialbe, and easy to fix. Go to langhorne if you need a setup around 300 you prob won't get one anywhere but craigslist or something otherwise. who knows with our economy i bet mad people are trying to sell setups and stuff.
