TIG is alot fo fun, but very pricey even if you buy used, also its the most technical process to use and usually requires alot of practice time.

But for around a grand you can get a nice used setup, the old lincoln idealarc 250 is an amazing tig machine that will weld just about anything you can think of, and if you can learn to tig weld not only can you tackle any project but itll also open up some well paying jobs!

and if you buy a TIG you can use it for stick welding too.

I want to take some classes before I commit to buying anything. I learned how to arc weld when I was 13, granted I haven't exactly picked up one of those things in a while but it was a good experience and I got pretty good at it. I don't think TIG will be too bad if I keep at it.

Relax, bud. When the dude with a drag Honda and a boosted daily that has had fast Honda's for years AND fabs his own parts tells the new kids on the block that they're doing it wrong, it's time to step back and learn something.

For those who are interested, check your local tech schools for night classes. I went last year at Upper Bucks Tech School. The class was ~$300. Well worth the investment. Most of the class focused on stick welding, which is now my preferred method on anything other than sheet metal. For a few hundred $$ more, you can proceed to the certification class...if you qualify. I am going for certification next fall.

Whats the certification? Alot of schools offer certs but they dont mean horse **** when it comes to a job, the AWS and ASME are goofy like that. The only 2 certs i focus on getting would be ASME D1.1 and CommonArc, other than that most certs are job specific.

I'm gonna tear apart this parts truck and get mine moved back into the garage before I purchase one as well.

I'll def be keeping an eye out on craigslist when the time comes for me to make the big purchase.
