I don't know what you're racing, but I can't imagine anything remotely quick. I spanked the ever living **** out of a newer Maxima with ~210whp back in the day when I used to not drive like a grandma

yeah my little sentra has taken a few maximas out in its prime...never got around to racing a newer 04 and up style...but id imagine if it was auto itd be pretty even...manual would prob have an edge...but hey you got another liter and 2 more cylinders and like 90 more hp to move the extra 1k lbs you got on me.

this was all when i trusted other people on the road....

as long as youre asking my opinion, modding a maxima is like modding 90% of civics. no matter what you do to it, its still a car that was never meant to be modified in the first place.

now, beyond that, its a nice car. im sure its a hell of a daily driver as i thought my old roommates altima was pretty nice. so beyond tha obligatory wheels, lower, and tint, its a lost cause

(im awaiting the responses of angry civic/maxima fanboys)

i agree in a way. depends all on how much cash u feel like blowing and if u have it. and i've raced a lot of cars and on most tuner cars like eclipse, civics, bmw m3's, VW GTI's, mustangs, etc i have beaten them if not kept up. i never been blown away. by more then 1 1/2 car lengths.

maximas have power and can move fast for their weight. but ya i'm just defending the maxima just because i drive it and i know what it can do and what it can't. every1 has their opinion but for a daily 4dr family sedan it holds its own

hey we all love what we drive. nothing wrong with that. and anythinig is fast if you throw enough money at it. its just the point of putting all that money into a car where the intention was never to be fast. all that matters is you enjoy it. i dont know your intentions with it, but im assuming you wanted a quick dd, not some drag monster, so you got what youre looking for.

exactly. all i want is a very quick DD. that has a good chance against a lot of all motor cars. i know it will never be like a supra or turbo civic or anythin that pulls under 10 secs at the strip.

It's a decent daily driver but I've never seen the purpose of modifying a FWD family sedan. If I was going to dump money into one, it'd be RWD, eg. G35/G37, any BMW, hell.. even a Cadillac CTS-V

The maxima was the worst money pit ive ever had. I always wanted to make it better. I honestly regret ever modding the maxima. I had a 97 Gle, then a 99 superchared 00vi z32 bbk with cobra rotors and a bunch more goodies then a 97 3.5 6spd. They can make a great DD but to mod them a whole lot just makes no sense. Its always going to be FWD its never going to out handel a real sports car. Well not real but just say some of the rwd sedans or awd ones. Great motors they are quick and suprise people but id have so much more money if i had never started modding a car they just will never perform how i wanted.

I kinda get the impression the Altima SE-R is the same engine but the car is much lighter than the maxima...

Whenever I see a maxima I picture the Russle Crowe line from Gladiator:

My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, and I shall have my revenge!!!!!1!

do you have any clue what your talking about?

1. 2004 was the last year they made a 6 speed maxima.

2. 2005-2006 is when they came out with the CVT

3. 2006-2008 is when the came out with the 6.5 gen.

I work for nissan... The 09's feel faster then previous years but im not sure if they really are. I like the styleing better too.. the 07's and 08's were soo boring and the CVT sucked.... Oh and FYI(not that anyone cares but I just found it unbelieveable) ... The 09's use a special motor oil that costs $12.00/Quart... Only reason I know is cause I had an oil change the other day on one and had to use the "special" Oil.... I forget what its called though lol
