Only new car I'd ever want is a newer TL.
well, i only paid 19.5k

Working at a car dealership, its really hard to bring myself to buy a used car now, i was looking at TL's, G35's, Mazdaspeed6's, etc. You just see with any performance oriented car, or run of the mill family car, they've been romped on or improperly maintained. Just leaves too much to question.

Like you said, it's a preference thing, mine is "I'd rather not have to service my car or replace things on it 2 months after i bought it." So i found it worth it to spend the money on a new reliable car, and save the headaches and gain the comfort.

Well, the vehicles I'm looking at would most certainly be dual purpose. (DD and track car now and then, and just an all around fun street car). Plus I'd probably be keeping the 240 also, or at least keeping it in the family. (my cousins like yea you should give it to me) haha. Plus, what I'm looking at is easily modified to 300+ whp. We shall see I suppose. It depends how serious I get about this. It would be super nice to have a newer car.

do it, its a good time too, cause dealerships are trying to get rid of their 2008 cars as the 2009s come in.

lol, I wish. I'm talking newer like 2005-2006. (but thats REALLY new for me compared to my 1993 haha). I'd love to go pick up an 08, but the cars I'm looking at I can't swing $35k+ lol. More like, low 20's.

haha gotcha, yeah my 240 was also a 93, there is a boatload of cars in the price and year range for you. Just be picky and it will pay off, there are good deals everywhere. If i didnt need a reliable, fuel efficient 4 door just for everyday use, WHO KNOWS what id be driving right now.

I'm on the exact opposite side of that. Right now I'm in the process of building my own DD for about ~1400 (for now that is, lol). I won't have to worry about anything going wrong, it's all manual stuff and everything else I've put together myself.

i feel both ways. since ive had the Z up and running it has been awesome... just as powerful or more powerful than new cars and has pretty much most comforts of new cars. But dealing with **** breaking on an 18 year old sports car that is a bitch to work on can get old. I'd love to get a nice used evo but honestly i don't really want payments yet. that can all come down the road, and honestly i wouldnt want to have 2 cars until i could keep something older as my project and something nicer and newer to drive everyday.

As mentioned , my solution to this has been to have 2 cars, newer daily , old lemon projects. Yeah payments do suck, but its nice as **** to have the peace of mind that regardless of what happens I'm still going to work on Monday with my AC on and if anything happens then its under warranty and I dont have to deal with it nor want to deal with it. Two maybe its just me and getting older but sometimes after work I dont care how slammed the car looks, or how stiff it is, or even if its stick, when you are tired and beat all you want to do is jump into some nice leather seats, recline back, put it into drive and cruise home.

And when you want to **** around and bang gearz and make lots of noises then you take the rice mobile out. Having one car thats modded to all **** sucks, even lets say going down to the city I wouldn't want to drive down those streets on huge wheels, stretched tires and stiff ass coilovers, or those parking garages that are one lane going up and a speedbump right before the ticketmachine, hello thar mangled lip.I sure as hell wouldn't feel safe leaving it down there, and yeah you can always have someone else drive if you are going out with the homies, but if you are taking out the gf then its another thing. Two if you break something theres no OH **** I need to fix this right away so I have transportation, but when you have 2,it becomes meh I'll fix it next weekend.

But new cars are expensive/or more expensive to mod, it takes a year or two to build up decent aftermarket support, so buying something brand new and then modding it doesen't make too much sense to me unless you have the cash flow. And at the end if you do something older, you'd probably have something cheaper, faster and cooler, something you dont see everyday. Its nice to get compliments on what you drive especially from non-enthusiasts.

My personal plan is to get out of my lease on the Impreza and buy a used 05 Legacy GT. Currently with the way the market is today buying new seems like a whole lot of FAIL, everything is depreciating like a motha'. And I cant get anything I'd want new for 20k and I dont want to pay more monthly. Why pay 30k for something now when in 2-3 years its worth 15k. Id rather buy something for 15k and then have it lose 1-2k a year afterwards and know that I can still sell it and not lose too much, then deal with 5k a year new car depreciation.

So LGT for daily, car pc, wheels, no coils probably just springs, little exterior rice thats it. Put the rest into the rx7 vert. Caged, slammed, ls1'd, will do 12s dead stock, and even faster with basic bolt ons + spray.

Got to have the best of both worlds. VIP'ish daily, disgusting rice mobile for the weekends.

240sxDann:
Buy a newer daily and go balls to the wall on the 240, if you can afford it you wont regret it. Just make sure whatever the daily is, its something you wont want to mod too much, because then you are modding 2 cars at the same time and that equals Broke Fail.

next time you see that ugly fast car. just remember its all about business. thats why my car is ugly and fast anyway. no time for games, just need it to do what i want it to do. and thats perform
edit: well i guess my car isnt fast. but relative to stock it is
Dont get me wrong, I like things simple too, but there are certain things that are useful. Airbags, ABS, Stability Control, things that make daily driven cars easier to drive and live with. You can have that nice RWD Lexus and not have to worry about getting stuck in the snow like you did a few years ago. As far as fun cars, I definately like them as simple and stripped down as possible, within reason of course (if I had it my way my car woulndt have ABS but id never remove the airbags). For a daily driver, I enjoy getting into my NB miata because even though the interior is that of an NA, its got some more modern touches to it. See here

NA - looks old and ugly

NB - Same design as NA but modernized

Its nice knowing that im driving a nicer newer car, not even for the look but it makes me feel better about myself in a way because I dont feel like I cant afford better.

i agree with this man. think about it. is it worth 18 THOUSAND dollars just to have that new year? id rather spend 1400 and do a little wrenching. and with such a cheap car, you can actually use it without being afraid of scratches, or getting the carpet a little dirty. even if you total the thing, o well, you lost a little money who cares. and all u need it minimum coverage since the car isnt worth anything anyway

also, no loans, monthly bills eating up your paychecks... no losing its value after a year or 2... no bull****

from personal experience when it comes to 240s its love hate relationship. i love to drive it i hate to work on it after i drive it. i do have a dd and its somewhat fast (not as fast or fun) but when it comes to driver feeing 240 gives me a chubby every time. i've yet to find another car that gets my hart going when take a turn and hit the gas. the sensation of neutral steer, high grip, hi speed is addicting.

I never had an issue with my 89' Accord. It doesn't rattle, it drives straight, engine purs like a kitten, has A/C and all the electronics work the way they should. My BMW on the other hand I hate the leaking transmission and the rocking seat, but otherwise the car is great(leather, heated seats, A/C, sunroof).

No Anthony, im implying that I think a car should perform AND look the part, I hate it when people pull up in raggedy ass cars with big power and talk a big story, whatever it may be (240sx, DSM, Civic, even a Miata, whatever)

Like a raggedy Civic in primer with a 1" exhaust pipe that is converted to fit a 5" muffler.

I agree but an older car does not necesarily mean it is going to feel like a POS. My 240 is 15 years old, It feels the same while driving as my 02 BMW M3 did. The paint is better, it's faster, and WAY more fun to drive. It does have it's fair share of rattles but it is missing the back seats for the cage and alot of rattles come from the trunk.

If I bought a newer car it'd be a Acura Tsx type S. They are AMAZING cars.

I don't think that buying a modern car makes you more mature. It might just mean you want to impress your friends and don't mind going into debt doing it.

well, just to clear up why i bought a brand new car.

-I work for Ford, i got the car for almost 4k lower than sticker price at employee price.
-I drive ALOT, as do alot of members so i needed space and comfort as well as fuel economy.
-It costs me next to nothing to maintain, being that i get everything at cost and have a full shop to use.
-Insurance is a puny $110 a month for a 2009 car full coverage, as opposed to the $451 i was qouted for a G35 used, and $563 a month for a 350z used.
-I have a 6 year/60k mile warranty bumper to bumper, 10yr/100k powertrain.
-Its new, which in itself is peace of mind.

Its really a different experience, and i wouldnt exactly knock it until youve tried it. It has alot of benefits when you have a busy life that requires a car at all times, when you just cant risk the shop time associated with alot of used cars.

Also, i can use my phone without even touching it, i can go through ipod playlists on my screen, i can plug in anything with a USB plug, have 6 different CDs in the dash and control it all with my voice at the same time. All from the factory.

Well I love my car to death. Its always been a car I told myself I'd own at some point and I did as my first car so I guess I'm lucky. But man would I love to get an STi or EVO.

An old car will never be perfect to me as I am very anal and as you said the rattling, stone chips, and all that other crap annoys me so much.
