if the check posted before the 10th of the month it will take them 30 days or so to catch it.. but they will catch it eventually.

I had something like that happen to me except it was a check for 3xx and they deducted 8xx even though the description spelled out _THREE HUNDRED_ on the check.
I caught it and told the bank and they acted like it was my fault or something. I'd been with them almost 10 years and they treated me like **** saying its MY responablity to catch their mistakes. So the next day after the fiasco was cleared up I went in there closed my accounts and walked out the door.

I worked in the banking business for a total of 6 years. Basically what happens is you gave the check to him and his bank deposited it in his account for the correct amount. The check then gets to your bank and they run how much is taken out to debit your account. Obviously this is where the mistake was. Your bank will be $1800 bucks short and they will find this mistake. They always do especially with a typical easy error like that. I'd say within the next couple days there will be a fix on your account. If it was less then $100 they probably wouldn't search that deep into it but $1800 they'll be all over it like flys on poo. Don't take any of that money out because if you do you'll be over drawn and have to pay it. It's very easy to tell when someone knows there is an extra $1800 bucks in their account and they magically spend it even though it shouldn't have been there to begin with. I'd always laugh at the ones who actually thought they'd get away with it.

You know when you open an account they have all of your personal info. Basically it would be a legal issue if the money wasn't returned. If it was a smaller amount you'd be put on check systems which means you can't open an account ever until you pay that bank back and get a letter from them saying you did. lol Pretty much you get ****ed. Banks get each others banks for ****ty people who try to screw banks.
