Are you disassembling the whole motor? when you pull the pan you could chuck a piece of wood between a crank counterweight and the block to hold it still.

after doing my 3 supra motor, and I have used even 1 inch impact guns on the crank bolt and nothing broke one right off, I was not happy, then on the 3rd one i had the same problem the bolt would not move, I took a tourch to it for ehh about a 1-2 min hit it with a 30 0Foot pound impact gun( a battery powered one) and it came right off not one problem, I spoke to a toyota tech and he said he was told the bolts on that crank he never had luck with an impact gun he was told by toyota they use the wrong type of steel for that bolt and over time it would almost seal its self in there. anyway so my ? is did you try heat yet?

Ah I didnt follow up here but we did get it off. We skipped the impact gun thing completely and were able to get it off using: a 1/2" ratchet, 22mm impact socket, and 4' hollow pole on one side, and a 2' prybar on the otherside to wedge into the flywheel to keep it from spinning. The key ingredient though was having 2 people to work together on it because prior to that day I was struggling solo the whole time. It was a little scary with how much force we were putting on it and it skipped a couple times but it finally broke loose and I should be good to go now.
Of course the question now is do I reuse the aging stock pulley or do I splurge for an overpriced aftermarket one at about $400? Ugh...

Dont reuse it, last thing u want is a pulley they might be warpped or no longer balanced to throw ur crank off. if you cant find one for a good price let me know. I can get you one for much better than 400

Gallons/PSI aren't what matters...CFM is. Serious guns like bigger IR Ti series ones can take 20+ CFM to make their peak torque. If you're not even running a 220V compressor...fuggedabout maxing out any serious impact gun

Not sure if you got it off yet, but when I did my timing belt on my Honda the pulley bolt was a pain. I used a 4ft cheater bar and it didn't work. I went to a shop and paid the guy $20 to get it off. He couldn't get it loose either, but he took a gas torch and heated up the bolt and it came right off. So heat+heavy duty impact gun is the trick.

Are you kidding?
Its a steal pulley. Not the type of thing to go bad, warp or fail...ever.
Clean it up, put it back on, and order a fresh bolt for it (if you abused the old one).

Those crank bolts can be a pain. I tried with about 3 friends to get the one off my 3s while the motor was out. It wouldn't budge even with a 6foot braker bar.

ahh, but it isnt a steel pulley, it is a dampened pulley and they have been known to fail. read up on your supras
luckily its a non interference engine, but it would still leave my ass stranded on the side of the road if it did go. however considering the pros and cons i am planning to reuse the original one, and just upgrade down the road after a brief hiatus from spending insane amounts of money weekly on this car.

Its not a steel crank pulley? Whats it made out of, aluminum?
The pulley I'm thinking of sits on your crank, in front of your timing belt gear, and just drives the accessories. On most toyota's they are steel and very beefy.

But yeah, my supraforums activity has been slacking..haha.

Yeah but it has a rubber damper in it which wears out over time and some have had them fail completely. Luckily no catastrophic engine damage but it does leave the car stranded when it happens.
Unfortunately a new OEM one is about $300 and the only dampened aftermarket options are about $400 (fludampr or ati)

Just an FYI for future...I have the special Toyota/Lexus crank pully tool that holds the pulley while you break the bolt loose...makes it a one person job...
