Keith, forget that! Come join IST at Penn State and be my roommate! Susie can have the basement with Frankie!

But seriously, do a few weeks in school and begin puttin applications at healthcare companies, investment firms, and hospitals for IT Internship positions. You will get real world experience to build your resume and make bank (most start at 16-17/hr at a minimum) during the day!

I am making more than that this summer, plus they pay for my travel expenses and an apartment will all utilities!

PS - VOIP is Voice Over IP - Basically a telephone which does not use a Plain Old Telephone line but rather uses a broadband internet connection.

Another great upcoming field is what I am in, Information Security. Basically stop hackers!

You'll realize how fast money goes; you can make a huge bake ziti dish to feed 6 people for less than 20 bucks. my girlfriend and i had it for dinner last night, i had the leftovers for lunch at work, and i will probably have it as a snack later tonight. Left overs, prepared meals, etc.

You'll figure it out
yo your late night snack is gone..sorry son i was hungry.

worst 10k i ever spent, i am network cert and A+ cert and dont use either one. i too went to a credited school and was promised a well paying job when i graduated. i hustle my ass off and still couldnt find anything making more than 35k or even close. so i stayed at my current job and now i am 3874982374982374 times better off. the IT field is soo saturated atm, if youre going to go to school make it a college, go for business. im not trying to be a spoiled sport because i think its a step in the right direction but tech schools rarely pan out from what ive seen.

also i offered gave you my buddies number for a better job than goodyear.

gl with whatever you decide....youre good peeps and def need a break with a better job.

I agree with Jason about Certs. I have none, but I have a resume which will put me above many people who do have them. Find an upcoming field that interests you and go for it. I am not sure about Tech Schools because I have no experience. I like College, but I have not learned a TON here. I am into computers and I learn a lot on my own so that helps.

I think you should consider taking night classes through Penn State Abington. They offer the entire major in IST (Information Science and Technology) which is the same degree that I am getting. It is local, the professors are knowledgable, they have the same placement rates and services as every other PSU campus, and you will be part of the largest Alumni Association in the Country!

in all honesty keith, networking with friends/co-workers is always going to prove better than a recruiting office
from what I've seen being in corporate business for over 2 years now. If someone you know is offering you a hook-up,
definitely look into it.

That being said, the more education you have under your belt the better. If you feel you can afford the time and monetary
costs of the tech school, it will never hurt you to have expertise in a wide range of fields.

Definatly take advantage of anybody who can get your foot in the door. You might not even need the degree to get a great job if you know someone who works in the company.

biggest question is do you like computers? like will said hes all about them and knows his stuff, this makes his learning curve alot greater. im not saying you dont know your stuff but if its not a hobby of yours then you may be wasting your time and money. just think long and hard before you jump into a serious debt for something that you may not want to do the rest of your life.

**** your network administration bull****.

We have 4 of those here at a company that manages over 70 high volume ecommerce websites.

There are easily 30+ web developers and web technicians (web dev deals with more front end stuff, the crap the user see's whereas web techs do the back end stuff that web dev uses to get the information they need to the user). On top of that we're constantly getting contractors in and out of here...

Learn to program... not to administrate a network.

Look into Java and Javascript (completely different languages). both are open source and relatively easy to learn. learn html and css, the building block of any website. With those four powers combined you can be captain planet!!

well... you'll get an exciting career making good bank.

learn network administration and be prepared to sit at a desk answering, "can you reset my password" emails all day... trust me... they get them from me quite a bit :D
