i love how people diss vista... i doubt many of you that are dissing it, and most people in general that are doing so, haven't lived with the most recent release w/ service pack.

i'm going to live with it and see how it is before making up my mind...

wonder if my xp version of Photoshop CS2 will work... i'd hate to have to buy more crap... maybe I'll get Fireworks.

Dont turn that off. Its a major security feature that protects you from viruses installing or modifying apps like spyware.

The way vista implemented the feature is actually pretty subtle compared to other OS's. In liunx you have to actually TYPE in your password any time you want to install or change something. Same goes for osx. Thats why those operating systems are considered to be so secure.

As previously stated, this is a major security feature of Vista.....don't turn it off. I also agree that most people who say that Vista sucks probably don't have enough juice in their systems to run it at it fullest potential. I've got 4gigs of ram and a 512mb graphics card so I'm pretty set there.

Has anyone else not noticed this? The BIOS is the software part of the motherboard's interface that you can access before the system boots.

Turning off UAC is on no way related to the BIOS lol.

As far as turning it off, it's the 1st thing I did. Yes, it's a security feature, but for those that work with computers, it's very annoying. Not to mention, if you have an active antivirus, you are still protected with it turned off.

UAC is a complete waste to have on.

Anyone who still bashes vista is either super stubborn or has a terrible computer. I gave in about a year ago. It works just as well as XP. SP1 was a massive help as well.

I'm going to love having dual monitors and the aero "diagonal" window selection thing-a-ma-bob once I get the computer built.

My 5 year old Medion PC w/ upgraded video card and 3gb ram, intel pentium 4 and VIA motherboard were holding up just fine under playing LoTR online for half an hour this morning (free trial to hold me over while I wait on my Warhammer Online Beta code...)

Kind of having the same issue with mine. I noticed that it seems to be a voltage drop issue from having to many things plugged into one socket. I disconnected my printer and it solved the problem.

I dealt with its BS for a year on my Acer Ferrari 5000, which can more than handle Vista, before finally giving up on it after having to re-install it twice and then installing a program managed to FUBAR the OS. Went back to XP and have been fine ever since.
