if you can afford one and clearly know about the warranty. i'm sure you can afford to fix it.
i mean what would u do with a GTR? it was made for the tracks.

I wouldnt be surprised either way with the GTR! Its a matter of time before they find a way to stop people from racing at the track. Maybe this is it, maybe not....... Either way, modding a new car voids your warranty as well and alot of us do it anyways. If I spent 80k on a gtr you better believe Im going to race it. F nissan if they do do it!

Does the GT-R's GPS have a mode to show you all the areas where people aren't drooling and jerking off over it?

I really doubt that this is true, but even if it is, it cant be hard to take it apart and just not use it. Why not replace the GPS or mess up it's receiver/tracker. Its a miserable idea either way and I'd hope nissan wouldn't do this to the GT-R so, I'm just going to wait and see what happens.

this isnt the 1st kind of thing like this, when everyone was buying and racing factory muscle cars dealers would send out reps to tracks and check vin #'s and plate #'s then report back to other local dealers and void warranties left and right. the solution then was to remove the plate and tape up the vin #'s from the stories my uncles have told me

Did any of you click on the link to the SEMA site that actually discussed what they were talking about?
If you read through it, a Japanese journalist uncovered the system on a test drive at Suzuka. The Nav system warned him that "any damage that occurred to the vehicle ON THE TRACK would not be covered under the Nissan factory warranty." It doesn't sound like a blanket voiding of the warranty and to me that sounds reasonable. Given all the electronics in the car, I'm sure it can monitor just about everything going on. If you blow your motor racing at the track, should Nissan have to buy you a new one? No matter how well engineered a race car is, it will break parts. Mitsubishi's warranty claims were so high on Evo's that they had to start that SCCA spying thing. Should the manufacturer of a car have to pay to support your racing habit? I guess Nissan went one step further and nicer, basically saying (at least in Japan, who knows about here) that, we know you're going to race, but we aren't paying for it if you break the car while racing.

They have the right to do that. And I have the right to never consider purchasing one.
I think that from a buyers point of view, it is absolutely ridiculous. However, they are covering themselves. They shouldn't HAVE to warranty half the parts that they do, because stupid drivers broke the parts. Warranties should not cover stupidity, and it looks like they put their foot down. The lesson is, beat on your GT-R on the street. If it doesn't break, take it to the track and give it a try! |
