hahaha, social security is just one of the many problems that exist in our spending today.

Until you have seen first hand, you wouldnt believe the way poor people and drug addicts live, support themselves, and rob the government of thousands and thousands of dollars.

But to say they shouldnt have kids is a blanket statement, I know a lot of great kids taht are doing big things coming from situations as such.

Until you see it firsthand, you cant grasp the good and bad of such a lifestlye.

Is it contributing to overbreeding, probably not, is it a abused and overused part of society, undoubtedly.

Orthodoxy, the true definition of such, is realization of the limits between God and man, and vice versa. The difference between "truth/false" and "good/bad" and the transcendence of the deity is what defines orthodoxy; tradition binds that through history, yet it is not to say that development is stifled.

That goes for Christian/Jewish/Islamic definitions.

I'm doing a paper on the EU and relativism, and I'm leaning towards the abortion/birth control craze as to why the population has dwindled as such. China may be having a population boom, as do places like India, but it seems like Europe has had a shortage. Now one can make a value assessment, saying that the values that "shifted" have caused families to be less mindful of "procreation", but you can also make an assessment that the technology (biological/other) has allowed for more control planning, which has thus allowed for the population shift without moral concern.

However, I chose the value road, and would be happy to elaborate further if I have time/this doesn't get reduced to the second crucifixion of Jesus.

By law, a Chinese family is allowed one child. If their first child is female, they sometimes kill it and try again for a male.

If the first child is female or disabled, some regions allow a second child, but the overall law does now allow this, especially in cities.

for every one you know that turned out great (my ex included) there are hundreds that haven't...

Its unfortunate to say, but I would fully support regulated, even simply limited, breeding... of course I don't want children at this point in my life lol

Unfortunately overpopulation affects the world, not just us. And its more prominent in third world countries, whose dying masses have no business creating children that will only die in 10 years and cost us only 5 cents a day.

Cleanneon... social security is only available after you've reached a certain age or disabled and unable to work. Yes people abuse it... but not to the extent that its causing over population in the world
Yea thats not what I meant though....I dont know the rules behind it all cause I dont remember the last time my family was on it, I think it was only for 6-12 months when we first came to the states until my parents were able to pick up some english and get jobs easier...its the general lifestyle that some people lead though just ****ing a lot and doing nothing, that goes on to their kids and in time, will have an effect on the world's population, and crime rate

ah, I'm not too familiar with the law other than they're not allowed more than one female

Its not the law that allows this, but families risk jail b/c they want a male son for inheritance and pride reasons.

Yea, it's part of their culture. Doesn't make it excusable by any stretch of the means, but we should take that into account before we pass judgment and get all crazy like that lol

Its not family that supports that though, its more where and with who you grow up.

I have seen just as many well to do kids fall into it as I have kids stay in it just as their parents.

And I have seen close to 50% or more get out of it.

Where I'm from your just as likely to fall into it as you are to pull yourself away from your parents and the lifestyle they lived with it.

I could go on for days with the things I have seen, good and bad.

I've seen my best friends parents brag about their social security, welfare, and drugs (pills), while my best friends are doing great in college with an awesome future ahead of them.

I've seen kids with well to do parents collecting unemployment strategically, and then working the minimum like 4 hours a week to collect welfare.

I have seen kids turn their parents in b/c the welfare checks had run out and they were trying to pressure their children to shoplift b/c if they did it on their own, the $500 dollar fine would be the least of their concerns.

True, its a completely different culture, and while it seems unfathomable to us, its similar to the Japanese elderly who starve to death before they break their pride and collect welfare or steal.

Japanese people, and a lot of asian cultures really from what I have seen and heard seem to take a lot of pride in what they do so I can kind of understand...what you are talking about reminds me a bit of "The Last Samurai" and their traditions....killing your kids because they are not the sex you are expected to have seems kinda barbaric though...yea that statement might sound kinda contradicting

Some kind of research was recently done and found that the majority of kids in Chinese orphanages are girls.
