Besides, even if everything lines up...and the sun gets sucked up or whatever...we wouldn't know for another how many thousand years (how long does it take the light from the sun to get here?)

if the sun "died", as in became extinguished of its flame.. I don't doubt the world would freeze in less than an hour... maybe less than 30 minutes.
Unfortunately stars don't just "die"... they normally implode, and create black holes or explode, when they run out of energy. However, I believe before a star dies it expands greatly, the earth would probably be destroyed in that collision... our sun is extremely small... |

i still dont think i understand this whole concept... i get the whole "end of an era"
but getting sucked into a black hole? it wouldnt just happen cus we lined up.. and the hole is center of the universe.. so we are always lined up with it in some direction

its an alignment between the earth, the sun, and the blackhole... I believe it mentioned two other "points" in the article that we'd be aligned with.

no one said we're getting sucked in...
according to the mayan's we're just ending a 26,000 year cycle and beginning a new one. In other words, it'll be another 26,000 years from 12/21/2012 that all these items are aligned. Its not the end of the world or the galaxy or space itself... the earth isn't important enough in the grand scheme of things to bring about the end of all existence... or even itself. There are thousands(millions?) of planets in the galaxy, I refuse to believe the one we inhabit is the one that controls the fate of all things... |

f it, If the world doesn't end, then life goes on as normal. If it does, then cool. We're the ones that got to experience it so thats gotta be worth something...right? We're all gonna die eventually, why not go out with the ultimate bang. Can you imagine the amount of pile-layage that would go on in those last few minutes? It would be spectacular. Cup half full guys, cup half full.

I guarantee you'd feel about a trillion other things, like the atoms in your body evaporating, before you felt that lol

Lol, guys, this has nothing at all to do with being sucked in or the world ending blah blah blah. We're just simply entering a new era that human kind has never witnessed before. The earth, sun, and black hole alignment only happens once every 26,000 years. Basically the "end" of the world that we know is the "end" of this cycle. This is also why they say it is the "birth of a new era" because well... it is! Pretty simple really, and of course as always people don't read it carefully enough and think omgbbq we're gonna die!!! Lol.
Let's not get into the fact that scientists have recently come up with theory that very likely indicates that the black hole of our galaxy along with a few neighboring galaxies are all revolving around an even BIGGER black hole. So we've got black holes revolving around black holes that have galaxies that have stars that have planets, one of which we reside talking about this. Weird huh?
