...absolutely nothing wrong with respecting property! But seriously, if you don't leave your PS2 on for days, there won't be any problems. The way your salesman said it, it sounded like he was implying the TV would blow up or something.

Yup, like everyone is saying, just dont leave it on forever. Having an image still for awhile can hurt it (pausing the game for a period of time perhaps?) I have left GT4 on for a night and nothing has happened to the television, yet they always seem to die strange deaths lol. I guess just see what happends lol.

Burn in is rare on newer televisions. Only early tv and plasmas were really prone to it.

^ my sister's plasma has the black bars burnt in for the widescreen format. Some of the newer plasmas can do the same. At work, we have 2 plasmas that are used in the customer service section and shipping department. The screens are burnt since some of the areas are static and never change.

Burn still happens in newer screens. Manufacturer's have come up with preventative technology, such as pixel shifting, and brightness adjustment. But Burn in still can happen. The whole white screen trick, well if you know how a plasma screen works, and think about how burn in happens, you'll realize that the whole white screen trick, is really just burning in the whole screen at a high charge, in an effort to wash out the burn. LCD on the other hand, no real worries. DLP rear projection, no worries. CRT, Plasma, those you gotta worry about.

Dude hook it up! even if it is a plasma or CRT, you should be good to go. Most games have enough "story line" screens, or loading screens to break up the HUD. A GT4 24hr endurance race might be a problem but seriously, at that point the screen shouldn't be your main concern.
