i ran half E85 and half 93 in my car without having any problems. you are supposed to run bigger injectors but it never affected my car. it actually ran a little rich.

I think the most common power increase you get by using E85 is that on a boosted car, you can safely run higher boost than you can with 93 pump ...meaning you can crank up the boost without getting knock/detonation and without having to pull a ton of timing. On an NA car, the only way I see you can get more power would be from increasing compression ratio (not exactly easily adjustable for most people) but you also get more charge-air cooling since the alcohol part of E85 has more cooling effect (latent heat of vaporization) than gasoline, so with a cooler charge it is more dense so you can cram more fuel in with the air and more air and fuel is more power.

You don't need new or different O2 sensors but you have to realize that what the typical standard O2 sensor is telling the ECU is not the same as if you are burning gasoline. For example, on my wideband (FJO using an NTK sensor) you can select the "lambda" parameter to either gasoline, methanol, or anything else you might want to burn and this will make the O2 output more useful for controlling air/fuel ratio ...and another factor to know is that the "optimum" a/f ratios for E85 (or methanol) are different than they are for gasoline. Fortunately, there seems to be a growing body of knowledgeable tuners who know how to tune cars to run safely on E85.
E85 is just a higher octane rating, it will do the exact same thing for N/A as it will for boost. You can safely up the timing and make more power. Just throwing E85 in your car and adjusting for fuel alone won't do you much good, you will need to increase the timing to take advantage of the higher octane. This goes for boosted guys too, yes you can run a few more pounds of boost but you can also add some timing to make even more power. I would be doing this on a dyno though, don't play with timing on the street.

As for widebands. It's pretty simple really, oxygen sensors read in lambda and then CONVERT to AFR. Lambda is universal, it doesn't change between fuel mixtures. However, to get .8 lambda you will need a higher percentage of E85 than you would say 93 octane. Since the widebind converts to AFR using the lambda reading, you can tune to 11:5 AFRs on both gasoline and E85. E85 AFR in reality is something around 9:1 I believe, but like I said since the wideband merely converts the readings from lambda to AFR to make it easier for the common wideband user you can just tune to gasoline AFRs. If you have a wideband that you can change the settings on (like to read AFRs for ethanol) then you will need to tune for the setting that you have.

Hope that helps.

i did a report on the environmental aspects of E85 for statistics last year. 8 page paper. pretty small.

if it is an attempt to be environmentally friendly, it produces the same ammount of toxins, just a different type.
so not like we have enough to try to figure out with helping CO2 emissions, now its some other toxin from E85. its a losing battle.

i don't know how it is for performance. from what i've read above i'd do it. i plan on putting a turbo or a supercharger into my next car.
obviously the car would depend on that. i will probably convert to e85
