Certain revisions just do plain better. See: late revision prescotts.

You know how the prescotts were hot as hell when they first came out, but I know someone who got a late revision prescott (like 2 years ago) and he OC'd it ~1ghz without any kind of problem. No hiccups. At that kind of OC, earlier prescotts would be like 40C ambient, no load. He was at about 35 ambient, 45-46 full load. For a full 1ghz OC, I say thats impressive.

AMD Athlon64 3200 (ClawHammer... haha)
ASUS board with K8 chipset (it was the only thing available at the time)
512 x 2 Corsair XMS
2 x 36.7gb Western Digital Raptors in RAID0
BFG 6800GT 256MB OCd beyond recognition

my bus has not changed from 800mhz FSB since i started the oc. The multiplier was never altered so its at what, i think its x6.5 or some weird ****. I'll have to check it out. i'm sure google will tell me, its been awhile. The OC was due to a "tweaked" bios. It had preinstalled setting options of Normal, Fast & Turbo. The turbo was altered. Within the first 2 weeks I had it OC'd to 3.2 without any aftermarket cooling needed. But just like anything, the hotter the temps get, the more power for cooling is needed. Purchased the Corsair XMS ddr400's cause the clock settings were unbelievable so speeds were increased. so that helped a little. With a bunch of other little tweaks here and there, i wasn't able to get the comp to stay stable at 3.4ghz Ended up changing the VCore settings along with fan speeds and cable management. One of my buddies told me I needed a new graphics card... which I ended up purchasing....which in the end, didn't notice anything. ahahha. Once that was done, still would have issues time to time. Ended up replacing all fans, purchased a bigger PSU and a Zalman heatsink(which did the trick). Its been running at 3.6 since. Almost got a gig out of it. But thats about it for the comp though. I don't want to take a chance of pushing more juice without spending tons of money on watercooling(which I will never do). So yeah, that was that comp. I've only OC'd one machine since then and that was for a buyer. All this talk makes me want to build a new machine now. Probably go with the Core2Duo's. I hear you can't tweak those much...yet. hahah

I freakin love it. Especially when I'm playing WoW or any of the other profiles (hope more come out) when I'm instancing, it pops up that I got a whisper in my keyboard, so in case I'm not paying attention to chat, I can double check it. It's such a quiet touch too. I haven't fully bound my G keys yet, but damn this board rocks.
