We charge a $1.50 for delivery.
The driver gets $.50 + his hourly wage. The $.50 is because of the price of gas.
I keep $1 dollar to pay for my additional insurance premiums. If a restaurant delivers (and notifies insurance co.), you pay 2-3x's what you would pay if you didn't deliver.

On a typical footbal Sunday, out driver will take 50+ deliverys and walk out with $200+

Hell, I almost always tip 4-5 bucks no matter what I order.

I factor in time, how the delivery person acts, and if they make an attempt at small talk or not.

I'm a great tipper, because I appreciate the **** they have to deal with, and I know how hard it is on a car. I won't stand for rude or ignorant delivery people. I actually like to make a bit of small talk.

Sometimes, when I come up a little short on money, I invite them inside where it's warm for a sec while I run and go get some more cash so that I can tip em.

Once they memorize my house number and they hear it on the phone or see it on the order, they're there in seconds. I had a manager recognize my house number from the delivery guys always talking about it, and he always said "Hey buddy!" when he took my order, and gave me the standard "half to 45" time, then I'd get a knock on my door like 15-20 minutes later with exactly what I ordered, nice and fresh, not sloppily done.

just say, when i order delivery if its about $10 order ill tip $5 if its like $20-30 ill tip about $7-10. And so on. I am a delivery driver on the side myself. Sometimes it doesnt even pay... but whatever. I dont get paid gas. you learn after a while who tips well and who doesnt. i know depending on who orders how quickly i get to the place... if you tip **** im gonna deliver to someone who tips well first. we say it will take 30-45mins. Sometimes its done and at the door in about 10-15mins. they ask me how i got there so fast and my answer is always the same... "when you drive an ambulance for a living you tend to get places quickly..." so i guess in short, its a good idea, and a nice thing to do to tip your delivery driver, unless hes a douche.
