i'm interested in this thread cuz i'm also looking for a flip screen navi for the STI,
I already miss my one in the IS...how much does the AVIC-N3 run? and do any
of the subie guys know if it will fit where my clock is so i dont have to lose the
stock headunit?

The n3 will fit where the clock is.Fred had his alpine up there.I put mine up there but didnt really like it.

The n3's ipod display is cooler than the n2.Heres a pic.

thanks, know how much it runs by any chance? and will my stock headunit still
work or will i have to run solely thru the N3?

It looks like the only avic n3 he has is a brand new.Its $1079.
He is a authorized pioneer dealer.You would have to run soley on the N3.I dont think you could do that.But ask fred also.

tha n3 and the pioneer z1 are basically the samet hing. There plat form are very compatible. Also the z1 has a faster reading since it has a larger hard drive. It is fast on re routing a lot of the time.

N3 is a single din with a 6.5" flipout i believe, and the Z1 is a double din 7". the Z1 looks much nicer IMO and if you find a good deal on one let me know!

what im trying to find out is... what are the main differences between dvd based nav. and HD based nav?

i cant comment on speed which is what you're probably wondering most about... but most DVD based nav cannot do navigation and play a cd/dvd at the same time because it only has one dvd drive. i would assume that the dvd based systems are also slightly slower, although i used to own one and its speed was great.
ok thats the extent of my input, maybe someone else can help more...

ah yes i didnt mention that. my alpine nav was separate from the head unit so it had a dedicated nav drive. i think that the N2 and N3 only have one though.
