You rev higher than you should to avoid stalling and flip the bike back or lose control/traction. Since you have never shifted a bike, I can assume you have no experience with independent controlled front/rear brakes I can see you locking up the front brakes and falling (locking the back brakes is no big deal, but locking the front is a giant NoNo) "High side" is the dirtiest word you can say to a bike rider. And it is very easy to get into a high side situation if you arent confident in your cornering. Do you have someone that is going to teach you to ride man? I at least started out on dirtbikes, but even then there was adjustment to the streetbike. You dont want a new bike if its your first time ever. I read somewhere that something like 85% of riders get in an accident within their first 12 months of riding. That's scary stuff. |

take the motorcycle safety course first. you get to learn how to ride on someone elses bike, for free, and you get your license at the end (if you live in pa). this will teach you the whole hand/foot shifting and independent front/rear braking. and if thats not enough, your insurance will be cheaper. as for bikes, i like my gsxr600, even tho every other bike on the road is a gixxer. wait a few months and they all should be cheaper to buy in the winter.

You would definitely notice the difference on a 750, it's over a full second faster in the 1/4..

Besides, the only 750cc I haven't beat on my Fazer was a GSXR and even then it wasnt by much. Of course, I realize that this is largely due to the drivers more than the bikes, there's no replacement for displacement as the saying goes.

Here's a good general rule for your first bike, stay away from anything with an "R" in the model name. Finance a bike thru a dealer and be prepared to carry full insurance also.

Typically not for a novice rider. Especially not for someone who has never ridden a bike before.
But its all just advice, thats all. As others have said, stick with a "lesser" bike until you get some miles under you ass. Going down with a newer full fairing bike is serious financial business. And don't be mistaken, you will drop it. If you want 90% of the performance and look of an "R" bike, look into an older 600 Katana. They can be had relatively cheap and offer more than enough performance for a novice. And last but not least, spend some of your saved cash on full protective riding gear. Good luck.
