Pandora works better if you put songs in, not artists. Try starting with just one.
Also you can share the stations you create with others. It does learn very quickly what you like and seems to have a good flow to it. The only drawback I have seen is that it is actually a flash application and some folks will not like it for that reason. Also if you click the song, there is a menu choice that will tell you why the song was picked.
