As far as I'm concered when you step onto a track, you are taking a risk with your car. Your trying to drive as fast as possible. I understand that insurance will cover it. But I don't rely on the insurance. I'v done many track events and have done my fair share of damage. I caused over 30,000$ worth of damage to my track car once. But I assumed that risk. I don't think it's wise for people to enter track events without the financial resources to make major repairs on their car if necessary.

NASA HPDE's are technically a school. So insurance covers it at the moment. IMHO it will not be long untill the insurance companies catch on and will no longer cover them.

From what I read on the forums, evo was trying to show off for the video, lost it, over corrected and ended up taking out a g35 and nsx on the last lap as the second group of cars were staging.
Well he surely did something worth catching on video tape. I'm just not sure if that was what he was intending.

showing off =

I feel bad for the people he hit, luckily they were covered somehow.

Just like the story of the Z28 doing a burnout into Nestor's at a Quakertown meet.

The guy in the Audi (camera car) could have caused another accident by comming to a stop. Atleast he got off the track, eventually.

The reason he stopped is they brought out the RED flag, this means pull to a safe spot on the track and wait for further instruction from the corner worker.

that NSX could very well be declared a total loss and if the G35 sustained enough chassis damage (can't tell from the one pic of the side skirts) that too could be declared a total loss

i am rather curious though what was the instructor saying to the guy before/as he was acting like a child? i would have thought that they would have told the guy to chill out or something....i figure he wasn't driving well and out of the blue decides to do something that stupid (but i could be wrong and he may be just that retarded) either way its a terrible accident.....really makes you wonder what the hell he was thinking

I didn't see the flag, so I didn't realize that.

its all good... most of the accidents happen in the novice groups from people not listening to instructors and such.

I don't know the story behind this, but apparently some people in the Audi community are not happy with the way "IFLYSOLO" acted after the crash.

I hate to break it to those guys but "iflysolo" is probably not that persons real name.

NI know it's not his name, but they can track him down since his ny plates read "IFLYSOLO", so if PDA wants to ban him from events, then they can find out who he is.

why exactly are they angered at the car with the camera in it? if there was a red flag then he pulled over like he was supposed to. he didnt cause the crash to the best of my knowledge...

as for the crash itself, i dont think everyone should jump to tell the evo guy he should go jump off a cliff... everyone makes mistakes, and everyone pushes it too far on the track, thats how you learn. i was taught a long time ago by a snowboarding instructor that if you're not falling you're not pushing yourself hard enough.

what i wonder about, is how the track works since they had a line of cars RIGHT NEXT TO the track while there was a hot lap in progress... that doesnt seem to make sense to me, and it led to a catastrophe. even if they were prepping to enter the track, i feel they should have been staged in a safe spot and not approached the edge of the track until the hot laps had ceased.

They apparently had alittle battle going on all day but it still wasn't his fault the evo crashed.

exactly... i wouldnt blame S4 guy no matter what since he didnt have his hands on the controls on the Evo. as for the Evo driver, yes his fault, but i would assume a mistake, just really unfortunate that he hit 2 nice cars instead of a tire wall. unless that wasnt supposed to be a hot lap and he was still driving hard, i'd say you should look as much at the track organizers as the evo driver on this crash for putting the NSX and G35 trackside.

I agree with the above. That is exactly what I was thinking about how close the cars were to the track. Also was wondering how he lost control in that area. It seemed like a fairly straight forward part of the track.
Finally, I have to wonder how anyone is sure the Evo guy was trying to show off for the camera? Has anyone talked to the Evo guy first hand to find out what the heck happened?

I think people are quick to assume a knowledge of the situation when they do not know anything more then what the video shows which is simply an unfortunate accident. I would say this for any car that was involved not just this Evo.

totally agree, i've seen time and time again a big long thread where people are making comments about something they really dont know much about... whats good is when the person involved comes on here and sets everyone straight and makes them feel dumb. i love that...
