Right, that was another thing I was thinking about.

And yes you are right, it's cooked at 400* for 10min.

I doubt a SC gets to 400F, normal operating temps for a motor are 180-210F (depending on motor). Of course that is coolant temperature but other parts won't be much hotter aside from the exhaust.

Yeah that's a good point too...

These questions are nothing that a call to Liquid Powder Coats can't solve.

Talked to Liquid Powder Coating today, they said to remove anything from the supercharger that cannot be powder coated or that cannot withstand 400* F.

Now my question is, what should I remove?

Obviously I need to drain the nose drive oil. What else should I do?

My guess is anything that is rubber needs to come out otherwise it will melt. Bearings should be ok, but then comes a question of the grease inside of them but I assume the grease should withstand high temperature.

How about the pulley? Do i need to worry about paint getting in there?

Also, how does one go about removing the eh idk what it's called.

This thing in the top right of this pic, this is the only rubber on the unit.

Here's a better pic of it. On it, it says, "Factory adjusted, do not lift here"

thats the bypass valve, any good powder coater should be able to removed and make everything work

here is a set of wheels i just got done by detective coating

Untitled by saxonbrian2, on Flickr

nearly flawless and I am very anal about stuff like this, not only did he do a good job but he kept me in the loop on what was going on and its not easy to trust multi thousand dollar wheels with just anyone

I'm just afraid that when I remove it, it will get tweaked and not function properly.

I don't know too much about superchargers...

The supercharger gets hotter when on the car then it will from getting it PC. I would expect you would have to drain the oil and potentially take it apart too.

The valve is just a vacuum diaphragm. There really isn't much that you can mess up by removing it, once vacuum is applied or released it moves a lever. Very simple.

I seriously doubt that the s/c gets hotter than 400*F

Alright, good to hear. I was worried because it says "factory adjusted, do not lift here" that made me nervous.

Just unbolt it and unhook the lever. They are adjustable, but just taking it off won't throw anything off.

Awesome! Thanks for the help/confidence boost lol

Do you think the bearing will need to be removed? It has grease on it but I think it should be ok.

I think the bearing should be ok because from my understanding the grease inside should withstand high temperature and pressure.

That's what I figured. Now I just gotta make sure that LPC properly masks off the pulley and other parts that cannot be powder coated.

I know on the 3800 SC engines, that valve controls the amount of boost it's putting out. If you press it down, it's a free MOD ;)
